On this particular Tuesday in mid-June we chewed over the possibility of an offseason mega deal between the Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers, reacted to Canucks goalie coach Rollie Melanson’s rather explosive interview in a small New Brunswick daily, and used Keith Ballard’s current contract situation as a point of departure with which to discuss Retained Salary Transactions and Compliance Buyouts.

Cory Schneider appeared on the Team 1040 today and talked about the American goalie depth chart headed into Sochi, his experience with the competition committee last week in Toronto and the prospect of John Tortorella coaching him in Vancouver. For Schneider’s Sochi chances, by the way, I think he really needed a monster playoff run to realistically propel him into the conversation with Jimmy Howard and Jonathan Quick. For the Canucks, and for Cory Schneider’s Olympic hopes – that late season groin injury couldn’t have come at a worse time.  [The Team 1040]

Had you heard that John Tortorella was in town and that he interviewed with Mike Gillis on Tuesday? Oh you had? Well did you know that our very own Dimitri Filipovic was the first to break the story? Because he did. His reaction:

So is Tortorella a realistic candidate for the Canucks head coaching vacancy? Ben Kuzma sure seems to think so. [The Province]

Sean Gentille looked at the pros and cons of Tortorella coaching in Vancouver. Pro: Tortorella is tactically solid, and a win now bench boss with championship pedigree. Con: he hates relying on young players even more than Vigneault did. [The Sporting News]

On Monday, as the controversial Tortorella was interviewing at Rogers Arena for the chance to succeed Alain Vigneault behind the Canucks bench, the former Canucks coach was wined and dined by Tortorella’s former employers at Glen Sather’s compound in La Quinta. Hopefully Vigneault stops in at Shields’ and gets a tour of the old date farm! Oh, also, Larry Brooks on zone starts is hilarious. [NY Post]

It was revealed today, also, that Jacque Martin interviewed with the Canucks last week. I’ve always admired how Martin’s clubs dominate in transition, utilizing crisp, set breakouts through the neutral zone. Imagine him as an assistant scheming up ways to help the likes of Jordan Schroeder, Alex Edler, Jannik Hansen, Ryan Kesler and the Sedin twins enter the offensive zone with speed… [NBC Sports]

Without you guys and gals, the name of our blog would be an empty boast.
