NHL History: Vancouver Canucks beat St. Louis Blues today 1995 to advance to second round

Today in 1995, the Vancouver Canucks eliminated the St. Louis Blues to advance to a second-round match against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Vancouver had posted an 18-18-12 record in the lockout-shortened season and were ready for their match with St. Louis. The Blues took game one, Vancouver snagged games two and three before the series went back and forth all the way to game seven.

There, Vancouver’s stars came to play. Pavel Bure scored two goals, Trevor Linden notched two assists, and Cliff Ronning added a goal and an assist.

Vancouver had jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first frame in thanks to three powerplay goals scored by Adrian Aucion, Bure, and Geoff Courtnall. In net, Kirk McLean was a rock stopping 41 of 44 shots he faced.

That was a lead they wouldn’t relish as they went on to secure a 5-3 win.

In the second round, Vancouver was no match for the Blackhawks who went on to sweep the Canucks.
