NHL Awards: Canucks’ Hughes finishes seventh, Miller 15th in Hart voting, and Demko second for the Vezina

With the 2023-2024 season coming to an end, Thursday night’s NHL award show highlighted the special efforts of the league’s best this season. Here are all of the Vancouver Canucks players, coaches and managers that received votes for their contributions to this season.

Frank J. Selke Trophy

The Frank J. Selke Trophy is awarded to the league’s top defensive forward. The PHWA votes on this award.
There were three Canucks skaters to receive votes for this award. J.T. Miller finished 15th in voting, with one first, second and third place vote and two fourth place votes. Conor Garland finished tied for 23rd in voting with Tampa Bay Lightning forward Anthony Cirelli, with one third-place vote and two fifth-place votes. Elias Pettersson finished 26th in voting with one fourth-place vote and three fifth-place votes.

Hart Memorial Trophy

The Hart Memorial Trophy is awarded to the NHL’s most valuable player. The PHWA votes on this award.
There were two Canucks skaters to receive Hart Memorial trophy votes this season. Quinn Hughes finished seventh in voting, with one second place, four third place, three fourth place and 26 fifth place votes. J.T. Miller finished 11th in voting with one fourth place vote.

Jack Adams Award

The Jack Adams Award goes to the league’s top coach of the season. The NHL Broadcaster’s Association votes on this award.
Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet won the award this season, finishing with 82 first-place votes, 23 second-place votes and four third-place votes. This is the first time Tocchet has been nominated and won the award. Tocchet led the club to their third 50-win season in franchise history and their first Pacific division title.

James Norris Trophy

The James Norris trophy is awarded to the defenceman of the year. The PHWA votes on this award.
Quinn Hughes won the award this season with 172 first-place votes, 17 second-place votes, and five third-place votes. This is the first time Hughes has been nominated and won the award. The Canuck captain led all defencemen in scoring with 92 points.

Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award

The Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year award goes to the league’s most outstanding GM.
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin finished second in the voting, with six first-place votes, 10 second-place votes and six third-place votes. This is the first time Allvin has been nominated for the award. The first-time GM made seven trades this season, including acquiring high-profile players such as Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov.

Lady Byng Memorial Trophy

The Lady Byng Memorial trophy is awarded to the player who exemplifies the best sportsmanship while playing at a high level. The PHWA votes on this award.
Three Canucks received votes on this award. Elias Pettersson finished as the runner-up behind Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Jaccob Slavin with 13 first-place votes, 31 second-place votes, 21 third-place votes, and 14 fourth- and fifth-place votes. Brock Boeser finished 16th in voting, with two third-place votes and seven fourth and fifth-place votes. Thatcher Demko was one of four goalies to receive a vote, finishing 71st in voting.

Vezina Trophy

The Vezina trophy is awarded to the league’s top goaltender. All 32 of the league’s General Managers vote on this award.
Thatcher Demko finished second in voting, with 20 second-place votes and 10 third-place votes. This is the first time Demko has been nominated for this award. The Canuck goaltender finished with a 35-14-2 record, a 2.45 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage with five shutouts.
