Today’s head-shots are pre-occupied with the pertinent question: is Roberto Luongo a choker? Hmm, it must be mid-July!
The man, the mystery, the SemiColon tackles the mostly fact-free "choker" narrative that surrounds Roberto Luongo. Basically he looks at Luongo’s performance in elimination games and comes to the conclusion that Luongo’s elimination game performance is pretty close to his usual performance, which is to say, pretty damn good. Great stuff.
In a similar vain, my pal Kevin Sellathamby has a take at Hell on Ice looking at whether or not the unconscionable musical abomination known as "Chelsea Dagger" actually impacts the play of Roberto Luongo. Based on his performance in this years series against Chicago – it seems unlikely.
One last take on the "Luongo the choker" myth – this one from Ryan Popilchak at Hockey Prospectus – asks the question: how bad was Luongo in the playoffs? His conclusion: pretty good despite an "enigmatic" performance in the Stanley Cup Finals… Wait, a minute, Luongo is Russian?
Here’s your .Gif of the day – Mason Raymond enjoys some french-fries at a diner with Alex Edler.
Chicago Now’s Wolves blog "The Instigator" has a take on the imminent hiring of Craig MacTavish. I’ll be curious to see if he signs his deal with the Wolves (a notoriously independent AHL franchise) or whether his deal is with the Canucks (as Claude Noel’s was last season).
PassittoBulis jumped the gun, and treated us to the "every goal scored by" entry for Canucks captain Henrik Sedin. The videos are a lot of fun if you have 20 minutes…
