Mid-Day Headshots is a CanucksArmy feature where we round up today’s freshest Canucks news including funny gifs, awesome videos, cool photos and interesting links. If you’ve written a Canucks blog-post and want it to be featured here, e-mail me at thom.drance@gmail.com.
Undrafted Canucks blueline prospect Sebastian Erixon played a farewell game with his Elitserien clubteam Timra over the weekend. Timra was celebrating the graduation of Erixon as well as Oilers prospect Anton Lander, both of whom will play in North America (most likely for their teams respective AHL affiliates) in the upcoming season. Team Erixon/Lander featured NHL stars like Magnus-Paajarvi and Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg and beat the usual Timra club by a score of 5-3.
Also, in the leadup to the game, Erixon told local news media site Dagbladet that he intended on making the big club out of training camp, saying "Om man inte siktar på att ta en plats kan man lika gärna stanna hemma, men det är hård konkurrens" which, google translates to: "If you do not aim to take a place you might as well stay home, but there is fierce competition." Nice to see that the young d-man is so confident. Hopefully he can follow in the footsteps of Chris Tanev and countryman Eddie Lack who were also undrafted prospects, but look like they may well hang around at the NHL level.
One of the leagues best defensive players (Jason Garrison) told Jason Botchford that he thinks Mike Duco will be a good fit for the Canucks. I don’t necessarily disagree, so much as I really wish the Canucks had Jason Garrison.
In the wake of MacTavish hiring, Ian Walker interviews James Duthie about the TSN analyst head-coaching pipeline.
Shea Weber and the Predators went to arbitration today, and it doesn’t look pretty. So, Weber’s inevitable tenure with the Vancouver Canucks looks more likely today than it did yesterday.
Passittobulis features every Dan Hamhuis goal scored this season over at their site this afternoon. I love this series, and you should check it out (even if Hamhuis isn’t exactly a highlight reel goal scorer).
