After Nashville Predator Cody McLeod caught Sven Baertschi with a blindside elbow during Tuesday night’s game, it appears that he will be free of punishment.
According to Patrick Johnson from the Province, the NHL is ruling the hit to be “accidental.” As Vanessea Jang wrote last night, the Canucks ruled Baerstchi out with a concussion after the first period hit.
Jang did a fantastic job outlining the implications from the hit. The hit came well away from the play and was a dangerous one – one that the league has been trying to get rid of for some time.
“I think he knew he was there,” Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said bluntly after the game.
Cody McLeod doesn’t exactly have a clean track record either. In Oct. 2013 when he was then with the Colorado Avalanche, McLeod was suspended five games without pay for boarding NIklas Kronwall two minutes into a game against the Detroit Red Wings in a incident that left Kronwall concussed.
