Yesterday, J.T. Miller gave one of the most brutally honest and refreshingly frank interviews from a hockey player in recent memory.
Miller made it clear that he and his teammates didn’t feel as though one practice would be near enough time before they were set to return to play against the Edmonton Oilers after having nearly three weeks with no game action.
That caught the attention of everybody, including the NHLPA offices. The Canucks’ players took part in additional medical examinations before Thursday morning practice, and those tests clearly revealed what Miller was saying yesterday, that he and many of his teammates are nowhere near game-ready.
“I cannot imagine guys that have had it and guys that are struggling to breathe getting up and down the steps to try to come back and perform so that’s the only part that I go back to and I just, I’m just more worried about our team’s safety — of our players and their families — and that’s our number my number one priority and thought that goes through my head on a day to day basis,” added Miller.
Earlier this afternoon, the league announced that the Canucks’ Friday night tilt with the Oilers would be postponed, and said they were still deciding what to do about the Saturday night Hockey Night in Canada matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
As per Dan Murphy of Sportsnet, the tentative plan appears to be for the Canucks to face the Leafs on Sunday and Monday, giving them two extra days to prepare for what is going to be an absolute grind to close out their season.
More to come.
