On Monday’s episode of Canucks Conversation, Chris Faber and I were joined by Greg Balloch of InGoal Magazine, Sportsnet 650, and Elite Prospects. Greg serves as Elite Prospects’ goalie guru, and with their extremely long and detailed 2023 draft guide having been released this week, we thought it would be fitting to talk draft-eligible netminders with Greg.
Now, we don’t expect the Canucks to be taking a goaltender until at least round four or later. Ian Clark has made a habit of targeting netminders with great natural abilities who maybe don’t have the technique of the position figured out just yet. Typically, these types of goaltenders are available later in the draft, and that’s where the Canucks normally select a goaltender. We’ll have more information on who some of these goalies could be published closer to the draft.
Nonetheless, Greg gave us plenty of insight into the top goaltenders of this draft, and gave us the goods on Italian netminder Damian Clara. Greg also gave his take on the Canucks’ goaltending situation, and talked about the club’s decision to sign Nikita Tolopilo, who put together a stellar season in the Allsvenskan league as a 23-year-old.
