Mired in a month-long slump, the Vancouver Canucks will be in tough on Saturday night as they face the Vegas Golden Knights as home underdogs on the NHL betting lines at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Vancouver opened as a +155 home underdog (wager $100 to win $155) at the sportsbooks for Saturday’s game, with the Canucks coming off a 3-2 road loss to the Edmonton Oilers as +165 underdogs in their last game on Thursday night. Jay Beagle and Alexander Edler had the goals for the Canucks in that defeat, with Brock Boeser picking up a pair of assists. Thatcher Demko took the loss between the pipes, allowing three goals on 34 Oilers shots.
The Canucks had picked up a 3-2 upset win over the Toronto Maple Leafs as +170 home underdogs on Wednesday night, but overall they’re just 2-7 in their last nine games and 5-12 in their last 17 games dating back to the start of February. That’s pushed the Canucks out of the playoff picture in the Western Conference with 14 games left on their slate this season.
And the Canucks have had little success against the Golden Knights in the two-season history of that franchise, winning just once in their seven meetings – a 3-2 victory as a +240 road underdog back in October – according to the OddsShark NHL Database.
In their two subsequent matchups the Golden Knights have won 4-3 as -170 road favorites (wager $170 to win $100) on November 29 and 3-0 as -280 home favorites last Sunday. Marc-Andre Fleury made 19 saves for the shutout in that win last weekend.
Vegas overall is riding a five-game winning streak into Saturday night’s matchup, turning around a 1-6 stretch in the middle of February to solidify their hold on a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Trade deadline acquisition Mark Stone has just a pair of assists in his first five games with Vegas, after putting up 62 points in 59 games with the Senators.
The UNDER has paid out for totals bettors in four of Vegas’ past five games and in eight of Vancouver’s past nine outings. The OVER/UNDER for Saturday night opened at 5.5 goals.
