It’s game day Utica Comets fans! But it is also November 9th, and that means it is my wife’s birthday, so let’s all wish my beautiful wife a happy birthday!
The 8-4-0-0 Comets hit the road to take on the 5-7-2-0 Binghamton Devils, (New Jersey affiliate) for game number 13 of the season today at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Comets are coming off of a 2-1 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, while the Devils last played to a 4-3 shootout win over the Rochester Americans.
The Comets have gone 3-1-0-0 on the road this year, while the Devils show a record of 3-1-1-0 at home. Utica has outscored its opponents by a 42-28 margin, while Bingo has scored 37 goals and given up 46.
The Comets anemic power play has gone 5/40 this year for a success rate of 12.5%, while their penalty kill has given up four goals while down a man 45 times for a success rate of 91.1%. The Devils, for their part, have gone 7/51 with the extra man for a success rate of 13.7%, while their penalty kill has given up eight goals while down a man 44 times for a success rate of 81.8%.
With Reid Boucher injured and Sven Baertschi called up to Vancouver, the Comets’ offence is currently led by Nikolay Goldobin’s two goals and nine assists, while Kole Lind sits second with three goals and seven helpers. Frankie Perron rounds out their top three with two goals and six assists in 10 games.
Brogan Rafferty leads the Comets rookie crew with one goal and five helpers to give himself six points in 12 games this year. Fabian Zetterlund is the Devils rookie leader with two goals in eight games.
Ben Street is the Devils points leader with five goals and 10 assists in 14 games, while Brett Seney has eight goals and six assists to sit in second place. Chris Conner rounds out their top three with six goals and six assists in 13 games.
Season Series
The two clubs have squared off in four games already this year and the Comets have taken three of them while outscoring the Devils by a combined 14-9 margin.
Utica has gone 1/9 on the power play in this series while shutting down all 10 man advantage situations that they’ve given up to Bingo.
Reid Boucher leads the series with six points, while Kole Lind and Frankie Perron are tied for second with five apiece. Ben Street and Nathan Bastian have each picked up four points, while Vinny Arseneau, Carter Bancks, Brogan Rafferty, and Chris Conner have three.
Evan Cormier took the first three losses for Bingo and shows a goals-against-average of 3.77 along with a 0.885% save percentage. He is now playing in the ECHL. Louis Domingue played the last game against the Comets and came away with the win along with a GAA of 2.00 and a 0.889% save percentage.
Zane McIntyre has started all four games against the Devils, going 3-1 while posting a GAA of 2.02 along with a 0.929% save percentage.
