The Vancouver Canucks finished the 2021 season with the worst record in the North Division at 23-29-4. It is still unclear what divisional alignment will look like during the 2021-22 season, but regardless of what teams are in their division, the Canucks will be looking for much better results in 2022.
Vancouver is currently going off at +5000 on the odds to win the Stanley Cup next year at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com (how sports betting works). General Manager Jim Benning has promised to be aggressive this offseason in trying to rebuild the Canucks into a playoff team and says he will be targeting puck-moving defensemen and forwards that can help bolster the offense.
The Canucks will definitely need to improve on an offense that ranked 26th in the NHL in scoring last season with only 2.6 goals per game if they hope to get back into the playoff picture.
The Colorado Avalanche are the early favorite to win the Stanley Cup in 2022 at +500 at sports betting sites. The Avalanche finished the regular season tied with the Vegas Golden Knights for the most points in the NHL with 82. Colorado ranked best in the NHL in scoring with 3.52 goals per game and third in goals against allowing only 2.36 goals per game in 2021, but lost to the Golden Knights in a six-game series in the postseason.
Vegas (+600 to win the Stanley Cup) had the best goal differential in the league last season at +67 thanks to the best goals-against average in the NHL at 2.18 and the third best offense in the league averaging 3.39 goals per game. The Golden Knights were in prime position to advance to the Stanley Cup Final before getting upset by the Montreal Canadiens (+2000) in the Stanley Cup semifinals.
Other top contenders to win the Stanley Cup in 2022 include the Tampa Bay Lightning (+700), Carolina Hurricanes (+1100), Boston Bruins (+1400), Toronto Maple Leafs (+1400), Florida Panthers (+1800) and the New York Islanders (+2000).
Tampa Bay has won the Stanley Cup twice in a row and will be looking to become the first team to win the championship three times in a row since the New York Islanders won the Cup four times in a row from 1980 through 1983.
