The Vancouver Canucks have traded pending UFA forward Tyler Motte to the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2023 fourth-round pick.
This, from Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli:
The Canucks and Motte worked away at signing a contract extension, but obviously couldn’t get the number down to a number in which both sides felt made sense.
“I think Motte was asking for well over $2 million,” said Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali – The Team.
The price that the Rangers paid seems low especially when you consider the prices other teams have been paying at this deadline.
Nonetheless, the Canucks did something they were criticized for failing to do under the last regime — getting something out of an expiring asset.
The deadline has officially passed, and we will have full coverage of Patrik Allvin’s 1:30 media availability.
