Canucks recall Zane McIntyre from Comets, Markstrom granted leave of absense

Canucks announced early Monday morning that the team will be calling up goaltender Zane McIntyre from the Utica Comets while regular starter Jacob Markstrom attends a family matter.

The 27-year-old netminder was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins back in 2010, but recently signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with the Canucks this summer. His first team outside the Boston organization, McIntyre was sent down to the Comets earlier in September.

Through two appearances in Utica, he has been able to carry a .903 save percentage and a 2.92 GAA.

The peak of his career so far was back in his 2016-17 season, where while playing for the Providence Bruins of the AHL, he was able to keep a .930 save percentage and 2.03 GAA through 31 appearances. In the playoffs that year, he was able to carry the Bruins all the way to the Eastern Conference finals.

With Markstrom departing the team,, it looks like Thatcher Demko will be making his season debut on Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

After the game against Detroit, the Canucks head to St. Louis for a game against the Blues on Thursday and will be in the New York metropolitan area for a game against the Devils on Saturday and the Rangers on Sunday. Safe to say that Markstrom will be making his return in one of those weekend games.
