Dahlen was expected to be in Utica this season but was diagnosed with mono prior to the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton. He did return in time to play some pre-season action for the Comets but it was decided that heading back to Sweden for the year was the best option for his development.
He was then loaned to Timra IK, with the expectation that he would head over to the SHL in January after fully recovering from the effects of mono.
When the time came to make a decision of which team to move to, Dahlen ultimately decided to stay with Timra with hopes of getting them promoted to the SHL through the promotion rounds. Those hopes became a reality as Timra stormed back from a 3-1 series deficit to beat Karlskrona in 7 games. Dahlen was a huge part of their success posting 14 points in 10 games, which led Timra.
He took a few days off to recoup before this re-assignment happened.
Utica will be really interesting to follow – as they close out their regular season this weekend and then prepare for the playoffs. They’ve added a huge influx in Canucks prospects with Lukas Jasek, Kole Lind, Nikolay Goldobin, Tyler Motte, Ashton Sautner, and now Jonathan Dahlen being added to the roster in the last few weeks.
Dahlen will likely be given every opportunity to earn more minutes this year as he is such a versatile player who can help anywhere in the lineup.
From a Canucks fans perspective, it’s awesome to see so many prospects make their way to the farm to close out the season.  The NHL season may be over here, but there is some playoff hockey to follow for fans.
It is worth noting that Dahlen is finishing the first year of his three year entry level contract.
