It’s not a traditional scenes from morning skate article today because the team held an optional skate after beating the New York Rangers Sunday night by a score of 5-2.

Here’s what we do know though…

The Canucks lineup is projected to be the same as the one they used in their win against the Rangers.

The only notable change is Jaroslav Halak will start in goal for the Canucks. This will mark his 10th start of the season, unlocking that $1.25 bonus that will go on the Canucks’ salary cap next season.

Quinn Hughes doesn’t get to play against his brother Jack all that often. Playing in different conferences, the Canucks and Devils typically only see each other twice every season.

When the youngest Hughes brother Luke joins the Devils in the near future, the battle of the Hughes brothers will become even more intriguing. For now though, it’s Quinn vs. Jack, and the brothers have something extra to play for tonight.

The brothers own a house together, and have been eyeing a painting for their humble abode. The bet is simple, really. Whoever loses tonight’s game has to buy the painting.

“We’ve got some little side bets going on,” said Hughes. “I think we want to pick up a little painting we’ve been talking about for the house, so I think the loser was gonna pay for it, but we’ll see what happens.”

Rest assured we’ll be working tirelessly to find out what the painting actually looks like once it’s purchased.

Quinn is 0-3 against Jack (0-2 at the NHL level) and the brothers didn’t get to play each other last season because of the

Bruce Boudreau knows the Devils are going to be coming out hard tonight after losing 8-5 to the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.

“They’ve got great young players,” said Boudreau. “They’ve got really good speed. If you look at their lineup now that Hamilton’s back, they’ve got a pretty good lineup — forwards and defence — so you can’t take them lightly.”

“Anytime a team gets beat 8-5, you know that they’re going to come out playing as hard as they can and it’s usually a tough win. Anytime we’ve lost or had five goals scored in the first period or lost by a big number, the next game we’ve played has always been an exceptional game no matter who the opponent was, and I expect them to play their best hockey today. We have to be at our best to be successful.”
