THE INTRO
It’s a good thing the Canucks already lost on the weekend so they can get back to the grind when they take on the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. The Bruins have won three straight and have the second-best record in the NHL, no pressure. Boston has only lost twice in regulation at home this season and Brad Marchand is still doing his thing 24/7.
Loui Eriksson is back in the Garden (pronounced gah-den) and if he scores it would be wicked awesome!
You could say this is a test.

LINEUPS
It appears the Lotto line is back together after the last game but is that the answer right now? Brock Boeser has produced but it might take wholesale changes to his deployment to get the most out of him. Could PP2 be in his future or a run with another third of the Killer B’s, Bo Horvat?
With Josh Bailey and Zack MacEwen both up in the press box, it will take an injury or a really, really poor game from Tim Schaller to see something different.

Being that this is a heavily Canucks-based site, I’m not going to lie and just get this out: I don’t know who Danton Heinen is but I do know that he was out with what DFO is calling “undisclosed”. He’s back tonight. The Bruins are playing their first home game in over two weeks so the hometown faithful will be ready to get behind a heavily-talented team.
Hopefully, the Bruins feelings aren’t hurt.

GAME NOTES AND A STAT OR TWO
  • Boston has the most regulation wins in the NHL with 28. Vancouver isn’t far behind with 23 but it just shows what kind of team the Bruins are having played the same amount of games. The Eastern Conference is a bit of an easier conference and travel isn’t as brutal but the Canucks always have fits playing these guys.
  • The Bruins have been ultra-stingy in net this season as well. They’ve allowed a league-low 130 goals-against. You have to be impressed with that. The Canucks have put up a few stinkers this year and sit at 157 goals-against. The Canucks will have to be airtight on defense tonight, combined with an epic Jacob Markstrom performance and finally, a resurgent power play. Too much to ask?
  • Speaking of the power play, Boston has scored five goals on eight chances in the last two games and nine goals on 34 chances in their last 10 games. For the Canucks, they’ve scored four goals on 34 chances in their last 10 games. That includes going 1/8 vs. MIN and getting blanked on the man-advantage five times. WOOF!
  • David Pastrnak (sp?) and Patrice Bergeron (correct spelling) flank spots 1 and 10 in PPG with 17 and 9, respectively. Bo Horvat, Elias Pettersson, and J.T. Miller all have 7 goals.
  • Vancouver took both games last season against the Bruins beginning with a 2-1 OT beauty and the memorable 8-5 ass-kicking that made even the mediocre fans stand up and cheer. This year’s Canucks team is far better than the one that surprised the Bruins both times a season ago. Hopefully, they can repeat.
  • Feel like you know enough about the Bruins? Good. An angry Canucks fan is a passionate Canucks fan.

MY 94 CENTS
Things are going pretty well for the Canucks right now which is why I’m highly skeptical they’ll win today. To me, this feels like a game that will replicate the 4-0 drubbing endured many moons ago at Rogers Arena. The Canucks won “Game 8” and that should have been satisfying but since then life has been a rollercoaster as a Canucks fan.
Tonight, the Canucks get humbled and everything goes back to the way it needs to be. The Lotto Line will be properly put back together, the power play will get tweaked so it actually scores again and the team will begin their ascension up the latter the way it should have been.
It’s going to be miserable but you’ll have to watch to prove me wrong.
