The Canucks Prospects are back again for another week of play.  While some prospects in the college ranks are getting ready for their Christmas break, winter exams and a month off, plenty of other prospects are gearing up as they make a final push to earn a spot on their respective World Junior Championships teams.  Down in Kalamazoo, all Canucks prospects are once again healthy and are back to playing with some dominating and waiting for their turn to be called up to the AHL.  Without keeping you waiting, continue past the jump for the latest in prospect news.

  • Cole Cassels is still serving out his suspension and has
    not played this week.
  • Jared McCann played in 3 games scoring 2 goals and 3
    assists earning a +2 and 2 PIM.
  • Jordan Subban has played in 3 games this week, seeing some
regression and earning 1 point along side a -2 and 2 PIM.  Subban has dropped to 5th
in OHL Defencemen scoring, but his brother PK just cannot stop raving about
    him
.  Whenever I see people talk
about Jordan Subban, they always seem to use the word “cerebral”.
  • Evan McEneny played in 2 games scoring his first goal of
the year and notching 2 assists.  He
earned a +1 to go with the offensive outburst.
  • Kyle Petit played in 4 games scoring 1 goal.
  • Miles Liberati played in 3 games scoring 2 goals and 2
    assists while earning a -3.

  • Jake Virtanen played in 3 games scoring 2 goals and 2
assists including the highlight reel end-to-end rush above, a +2 and 10 PIM.  Of course, one
ESPN prospect scout just had to poke the bear.
  • McKenze Stewart played in 4 games scoring 1 assist, a +3
    and 6 PIM.
  • Anton Cederholm played in 4 games scoring 1 assist,
    earning a +3 and 10 PIM.

  • Harvard is one of the top five ranked NCAA teams this year
and so far they have beaten Princeton 4-3 and Quinnipac 5-2 this week.  Harvard is now on their Christmas break as
they expect their students to “study” for “exams”.  Despite being older, McNally is now one of
the top NCAA defencemen with 1.25 points/game with 4 goals and 11 assists
    through 12 games.
  • The University of Maine is not a good team this year and is a large reason
why Ben Hutton is not seeing a repeat of his success.  This week the Black Bears lost 2-3 in OT vs.
UMass-Lowell and will face New Hampshire twice this upcoming week.  Hutton had no points this past week.
  • The University of Wisconsin lost a pair of games to Penn State this week, 2-5
and 2-4.  Next week has the Badger’s last
game of the year until January when they face the US Under-18 team.  Joseph Labate scored 1 assist and notched 3
    shots in 2 games.
  • In the same pair of games, Mike Williamson only played the later of the two
earning 2 shots on goal, a +1 and 2 PIM.
Penn State does not play until after Christmas.
  • Yale lost this past week 1-3 vs Union and then won 5-2 vs
Rensselar.  Yale is also on their
Christmas break until the end of the month.
    Matthew Beattie did not play.

  • The Kalamazoo Wings are in 6th (or 7)
in their division and currently ranked 12th in their
conference.  The Wings finally won a
game, beating Evansville 5-2 and then losing to Cincinatti 0-2 and having a 1-3
loss to Florida.  This week the Wings
play Wednesday, Friday and Saturday vs Gwinett, Toledo and then Toledo again.
  • Curtis Valk continues to dominate the ECHL and
he leads the Wings in scoring.  It’s only
a matter of time until he sees the jump to the AHL.
  • Ludwig Blomstrand played in 3 games earning 1
assist, a +1, and 12 Shots on goal to go with his 2 PIM.
  • Dane Fox played in 3 games scoring 1 goal,
    earning a -3 and 7 shots with 2 PIM.
  • Jeremie Blain is still up with Utica.
  • @Sarah_Hobday,
the KWings Insiderrr has given us the latest scouting reports from Canucks
    prospects:
Fox has seen big improvement in his speed since training camp.  Valk showed great character to fight a 6’4”
guy who leveled Fox.  Blomstrand has been
putting up more shot attempts and been heavily used on the powerplay.  The Valk/Fox/Blomstrand line has been by far
the best line for Kzoo with the amount of shots and scoring chances.  They read each other really well.
