CANUCKS ARMY GDT 76 – CANUCKS @ STARS
By Always90four
6 years agoCanucks fans will hope for a repeat of the last time the Stars hosted Vancouver when the boys in blue exploded for a 6-0 win in Dallas. Tonight has the opportunity to be another one of those random games but the Canucks haven’t even been living up to any kind of billing so it could end up being a stinker.
A certain Daniel Sedin will play in his 1300th career NHL and that is something to behold. All for the Canucks too, he’s seen some stuff.

Ashton Sautner was called up on an emergency basis yesterday due to the fragile nature of Chris Tanev’s body. Tanev is most likely out which would mean Sautner gets an NHL debut, exciting! Brendan Leipsic hasn’t been ruled out but is definitely questionable. Reid Boucher would again take Leipsic’s spot. Stay tuned.
Jacob Markstrom has to be the starter. He isn’t the obvious choice but he’s better than Anders Nilsson at this point.

Nothing doing for changes in Dallas. They lost to the Bruins the other night but with a team trying to make the playoffs, they’ll need their (excuse the pun but not really) stars to produce.
Kari Lehtonen should start.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Daniel Sedin, as mentioned above, will play in his 1300th NHL game. Amazing! His 2018 season has actually been fairly good and if this indeed his last season (Henrik’s too) then we were all lucky to have witnessed greatness.
- The year was 2004 and the Canucks were the talk of the league. Vancouver’s leading PIM man was Jarkko Ruutu with 131 minutes and to this date, Derek Dorsett still leads the team with 74 minutes followed by Alex Edler with 62 PIM. The point of this? This Canucks squad isn’t scaring anyone and even more so now since the departure of Dorsett. The Canucks struggle to hang with many teams and aren’t fast enough or gritty enough make it interesting. Dallas might not need to do much to finish this one.
- Bo Horvat is 12 points back of his career high set one season ago but considering he already equaled his goal mark the other day and has played 24 fewer games, anything he does now is notable. As bad as the Canucks have been the question should once again be asked “how bad would they be without Bo?” Very bad.
- Henrik Sedin is four points back of 50. Daniel did it and Henrik has three points in his last two games so he’ll be seeing the puck a bit more to end the season. A goal would be nice.
- Reid Boucher will try to get the scoring touch back like he did the last time he played in Dallas. Boucher had two goals, his only two of the campaign, in a huge effort back in February. If this game is going to have random heroes, let’s include Alex Biega and Darren Archibald. What do they have to lose?
THE TWITTER TAKE
Unlikely he gets to play today unless he secretly flew out last night. Weirder things have happened, I suppose. Either way, it’s time to see yet another prospect make his debut.
MY 94 CENTS
Tonight won’t mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things but knowing the Canucks aren’t being pushed over would be nice. If Henrik scores one more time, the moral victory bingo card will be complete. Boeser goals and Canucks losses were one, Markstrom’s shutout was another, and Chris Tanev getting injured multiple times was the second last square. Feels like a winning night but the Canucks always seem to surprise us.
OVER / UNDER
Canucks first period goals (+/- 0.5) Vancouver has done most of their damage in the first frame and considering Dallas is reeling right now, take the over. The Canucks might even win this one too! Bonus!
Alex Edler total points (+/- 1.5) Edler has been getting it done lately and what once looked like a date on the calendar that would be regrettable, tonight’s matchup could be a good one for #23. Take the over.
