CANUCKS ARMY GDT 73 – CANUCKS @ GOLDEN KNIGHTS

6 years agoThe Vancouver Canucks embark on their final extended road trip of the season with the Vegas Golden Knights being their first opponent of four in six nights.
Vegas won their last contest convincingly against the ever-awful Calgary Flames while the Canucks dropped a close one to the Sharks. Tonight’s game could have a few fireworks carryover from Saturday if the Canucks believe they can still entertain. T-Mobile Arena will definitely be rocking, and that may play into the Canucks hands.
This season isn’t over for the Canucks yet. They scored multiple goals for the first time since the Minnesota Wild game, and they found ways to draw penalties. Amazing to think this team almost flatlined.

LINE COMBINATIONS
Nikolay Goldobin most likely has bought himself another day after scoring a goal (it’s a big deal these days). Assume the second line stays intact and even though it wasn’t amazing, the Sedin line should too!
Ben Hutton has a foot infection, but I can’t imagine he plays anytime soon. These doctors for the Canucks aren’t very reliable.
Jacob Markstrom was a bit hard on himself Saturday. He played great IMO. Expect him to start with a split upcoming later this week in the back to back games.

This is getting old. The Vegas Golden Knights are playing amazingly well so their lineup won’t change. It’s possible someone could slot in, but they’re so good, why change? But they don’t have Brendan Leipsic… so there’s that.
Marc-Andre Fleury should be the starter tonight.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Brendan Leipsic is here to show the Vegas hockey team they made a huge mistake giving him up. Leipsic’s six points in nine games with the Canucks has him getting noticed, and he may have solidified a future on this team. As I’ve said before, he has Alex Burrows potential with a bit more of a scoring edge without the help. Definitely no Holm-ers here.
- Daniel Sedin is determined to hit 50 points this season. With two points to go, it’s inevitable he’ll get it done and seven points away from the crown prince, Brock Boeser’s 55. Henrik currently sits at 43 points and hasn’t put up a single point in eight games after his five-game point streak was snapped. It could happen again. These two are legends, anything is possible.
- William Karlsson is on the brink of the big 4-0! No, he isn’t going over the hill, he’s about to score 40 goals and knowing the Canucks he’ll get at least one this evening. Vegas has been a special story this season, and a 40-goal scorer is a nice addition to that story.
- Bo Horvat got back on the scoreboard Saturday, and even though it was a skate goal, it’s something, and Horvat is ready to own this thing.
- With only a handful of games left in the season, Jussi Jokinen might not be a terrible player to have in the lineup. He currently sits 10th in the NHL with a 63.55 CF% when trailing at 5v5. Not bad at all. What do the Canucks really have to lose?

The Canucks were so close to pulling off the win on Saturday and believe it or not; they were exciting too! Even at the end of the game, it didn’t look like they gave up. Tonight they’ll need more of the same against a very good Vegas team that has a lot to brag about this year. Vegas is T-3 for most wins at home this season with 25 and has only dropped a decision nine times at T-Mobile Arena. Don’t expect the Golden Knights to be lazy this evening; the Canucks will have their work cut out for them.
OVER / UNDER
Canucks/Knights PPG combined (+/- 1.5) Both teams are having great success on the PP this season and wouldn’t you know it, they follow each other in the standings for most goals with the man advantage, 49 (VAN) and 48 (VGK). Take the over on this one.
Nikolay Goldobin points (+/- 0.5) What will we see this evening from Goldobin? He’s an enigma if ever there was one. NG hasn’t exactly peppered the scoresheet this season, but he seems to have some memorable moments. Take the over. Not sure why just feels right.
