So you’re telling me there’s a chance? The Canucks come into Colorado looking for a victory after losing a tough one to Chicago back on Sunday. The Avalanche sit dead last in the league with 28 points and the rumours have been swirling about tearing it down and building around Nathan Mackinnon.
It seems very doable to take two points tonight but knowing the Canucks, this one will go to OT or at the very least a last minute scramble to maintain the win.
Let’s do this!
LINE COMBOS
Alex Edler had a maintenance day on Tuesday so unless someone gets locked in their hotel room, don’t count on Jordan Subban starting this evening. No other big news… yet.
Jacob Markstrom is starting tonight with the second leg of the back to back going to Ryan Miller tomorrow.

Matt Duchene is down with the sickness and will be a game-time decision so the Avalanche have called up Jim O’Brien. Tyson Barrie and Rene Bourque have been placed on IR.
Calvin Pickard should get the start.

GAME NOTES, STATS AND OTHER INTERESTING INFO
- What if he shot you in the face? – Since Bo Horvat was sniped by Nikita Tryamkin, he hasn’t lost a beat. His beauty against the Blackhawks was proof you can’t keep a good man down. Bo hit a snag for 3 games but is back in the saddle. I’d expect him to put up a few points tonight.
- That’s as good as money sir, those are I.O.U’s – The Canucks have two games in hand on the Calgary Flames going into tonight’s game and sit a point back of 8th. The Western Conference is rewarding mediocrity so the Canucks should take advantage while they can and beat the Avs.
- You TOTALLY redeem yourself – With 3 points in his last 5 games, Troy Stecher is slowly getting back to contributing on the scoreboard. His shot is starting to get to the net and like Alex Edler, practice makes perfect. Would be nice to see Tryamkin put the puck in more with his howitzer.
- Boy, this party really died – What once was a flourishing asset to the Canucks is no more. The power play has plagued the Canucks this season and they’ve received a fair amount of them. At 13.6%, they sit 2nd last only to the Detroit Red Wings. Willie Desjardins has to get something working here because it’s unbearable to watch for much longer. I feel like if the Canucks score on the man advantage, Safeway should just give away that million dollars.
- Yeah, we’re in the Rockies – Since October 2010, the Sedins have done OK against the Avalanche. Daniel Sedin has a hefty 65.6 CF% in the same timeframe, so maybe he can start catching up to HENR1K.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
At the end of today, let’s crush last year’s total raised. #BellLetsTalk has done some amazing work in the last few years, they opened up conversation, and most importantly made it real. Many of us have no idea what our friends and family are going through and all it takes is starting the conversation.
MY TAKE
Jacob Markstrom needs more starts and the Canucks need wins – tonight they go hand in hand. The results most of us weren’t expecting are starting to materialize and honestly, we need to be happy for this. What if the Canucks don’t need the tank? They failed it once so they might as well try to build from what they have.
WHO IS THE NEXT RANDOM CANUCK TO SCORE AND WHAT ANIMAL WILL A KID’S DAD BUY HIM?
I am really not a fan of all these kids and their requests for animals. I get the whole “make a sign, get on TV” shtick but come on, it’s done now. The dinosaur one the other night was pretty funny because it’s pretty much impossible to get a dinosaur these days, I’ve checked.
If I’m going to sink to their level, I might as well pick Brendan Gaunce and he wins a koala for some kid. That’s the best I have.
