CANUCKS ARMY GDT 29 – CANUCKS VS. FLYERS

The Canucks are looking at their first Bo Horvat-less game of the season tonight, but this might be the right opponent to ease into that. Despite posting consecutive wins in Alberta, the Philadelphia Flyers are just two games removed from a 10-game winless streak, and might be relaxing a bit after pulling out of that skid. They’re also at the end of a three-game Western Canada road trip, and are having goalie troubles to boot.
Let’s go!

LINE COMBINATIONS
Brace yourselves, Canucks fans, Bo Horvat (leg) will be out of the lineup for a bit. Vancouver has recalled Michael Chaput and Thatcher Demko. The Demko option sounds like it’s a cap thing but if Bo is out for any amount of time, the Canucks magical little run may be all for not. Brandon Sutter is still out so the options up the middle aren’t exactly sizzling.
There will be some line shuffling, that’s for sure.
The man, the myth, the legend Jacob Markstrom is on a hot streak so Travis Green will most likely stick with him tonight.

With Philadelphia’s win last night, there most likely will be no changes. On the injury front,  Brandon Manning (no relation to Eli Manning) is out for awhile and put on the IR. Goaltender Michal Neuvirth is out 1 week with the ever-popular LBI (lower body).
Brian Elliott started against the Oilers last night so Brian Boucher may get a spot start tonight.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • 2nd overall pick Nolan Patrick is NOT someone to watch this evening because he has two assists in his last eight games and ONE goal in his last 15 games. It was against the Flames. Enough said. Fellow rookie Brock Boeser hasn’t scored in two games and everyone is wondering what the problem is? Rookies, so unpredictable.
  • Daniel Sedin is having a resurgence of sorts. His eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) in his last eight games is resembling the Daniel of old. Henrik hasn’t been slouching either: 10 assists his last eight games is the Henrik we all remember. Just when things looked like they might be over for the Sedins, they get the better matchups and expose their opponents.
  • Jacob Markstrom is playing like a man possessed. One goal allowed in his last two games combined with a handful of larcenous saves and Markstrom may have made himself a case for the #1 job. It’s not locked up yet, but similar to last season, goaltending seems to be the least of the Canucks issues.
  • No Brandon Sutter or Bo Horvat means lots of work for Henrik Sedin, Sam Gagner, and Alex Burmistrov. The Flyers have been active as of late so it will be an all hands on deck kind of night. Again, Brock Boeser is due for something big so tonight would be a good fit.
  • Ben Hutton is all smiles on the outside but this hasn’t been his season. He’s due for a feel-good game. He’s due for a feel-good period. Anything.
THE TWITTER TAKE
Sam was not able to precede this tweet with Boeser’s name. It just wasn’t possible.
MY 94 CENTS
When Brock Boeser lit up the Flyers in Philadelphia, we all thought “Hey, this guy is pretty darn good” and then he kept being pretty darn good. As Bo Horvat will be out for this game, Boeser will need to get his cues from someone else. The Flyers played a solid game against the Oilers last night but the Oilers aren’t exactly a force these days.
Expect the Canucks to put together another strong game and players like Loui Eriksson and Thomas Vanek will need to lead the charge.
OVER / UNDER
Brock Boeser goals (+/- 1): Honestly, take the over. He’s due for a big game again.
Dale Weise points (+/- 0): The “Dutch Gretzky” is back but it’s tough to say if he gets on the score sheet. Take the over because we all love Dale Weise.
