Another week, another podcast. The only thing that’s different this week is that this is the BIGGEST Canucks Podcast Episode of All-Time. This week we are joined by:
-Brendan Batchelor
-J.D. Burke
-Ryan Biech
-Rick Dhaliwal
-Matt Sekeres
-Read Admiral (Spittin Chiclets)
-Andrew Walker
-Dan Murphy
-Rob Williams
We start with the radio play-by-play voice of the Vancouver Canucks, Brendan Batchelor. Batch has been the radio voice for the past two seasons on Sportsnet 650 and brings some fun every broadcast alongside his wingman Corey Hirsch. We chat with Batch about his broadcasting career a bit and how the job that he’s currently doing is his dream job that he has now attained.
We follow that leadoff hitter with former Managing Editor of Canucks Army, J.D. Burke. JD and myself chat for over 45 minutes, leading off with some chat about his time climbing up the ladder in Canucks media. JD now hosts “Rink Wide” every Saturday on TSN1040 and writes for TheAthletic Vancouver. We talk a lot about management and what the Canucks could be doing in the offseason to address the many deficiencies that have come from the Benning era.
After two great guests we chat with current bench boss at Canucks Army, Ryan Biech. Ryan does great work covering prospects and has his work featured on TheAthletic and here at CanucksArmy. We start off talking a bit of prospects in this years draft, including the local boy Bowen Byram and if he would be an option for the Canucks if they were to pick third overall. We then continue on to chat about the team as a whole and I put Ryan to the test asking for a ton of opinions as we go into what should be a busy offseason for the Vancouver Canucks. We come full circle with the conversation and talk a few more prospects before Ryan give us a hot take for the Canucks in the offseason.
Time to get to the meat of the order, we hit the four-hole hard with Rick Dhaliwal of Sportsnet650’s morning show. Rick does an amazing job breaking Canucks news on twitter and is always on the phones with his connections to be the first to break a big story on Canucks twitter. We talk about how his first few gigs in media involved covering Junior hockey in Fort St.John and how building relationships is the key to getting the best information.
The jive at 5 features Matt Sekeres of TSN1040’s Sekeres & Price. Matt and Blake were kind enough to let me join in on an hour of their show a month ago and Matt made truth to his promise of coming on my show! We talk about his wish to cover sports in Vancouver and the road that got him to hosting at 1040, a good story about B-Mac in Matt’s early radio days followed by us diving into the Canucks offseason plans for the roster and for management as well.
We take a turn away from Canucks talk to bring on the host of the biggest hockey podcast in the world. We get to chat with RA from Spittin Chiclets, the Rear Admiral has been writing about the Boston Bruins for longer than I have been alive. The Spittin Chiclets podcast is regularly one of the top sports podcast in the world and with the combination of former NHLers of Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney, RA keeps the train on the tracks as these guys pump out fun content with a back door look into the NHL life. We chat about 2011, this year playoffs and even chat about the possibility of changing the overtime format.
We go back to radio and are joined by Sportsnet 650’s Andrew Walker, who knows how to get twitter talking and is joined alongside Scott Rintoul on his afternoon show. We chat about the season that was for the Canucks and how this team needs to make major changes into next season.
Next up is everyone’s favourite rink side reporter, Dan Murphy. Murph has been cover the Canucks all his life and he makes his return to the Canucks Conversation to talk about life on the road and what he has thought about player like Nikolay Goldobin, Quinn Hughes, Jake Virtanen and plenty more. Dan comes in hot with a promised John Shorthouse story as well!
Hitting in the nine-hole is Rob Williams of The Daily Hive Vancouver, Rob the hockey guy talks about he came up through the ranks of Vancouver media. He started out with his own blog and now has a full-time job writing about sports. We talk a lot about goaltending and what the Canucks should do with Markstrom and Demko next season.
Thanks to all my guest that helped make this the BIGGEST CANUCKS PODCAST EPISODE of all time.
