Regular seasons are winding down around the prospect world and playoffs are ramping up in Russia. Vasily Podkolzin enjoyed some solid productivity in his first KHL playoff round and Michael DiPietro continues to give the Utica Comets confidence in between the pipes. All this and more in this week’s Blackfish Report.

  • Carson Focht scored a highlight-reel goal on Wednesday to go along with a primary-assist. He was held pointless in Calgary’s two other games and a -4.
  • 2 primary-assists on the power-play for Jett Woo this week in three games. Calgary sits in the first wildcard spot for the Eastern Conference. They have clinched a playoff spot and have 4 games left in the season.
  • Ethan Keppen is still out with injury.
  • Arturs Silovs struggled in his 2 games this week allowing 7 goals on 40 shots in his first start and then 6 goals on 37 shots in his following performance. 6 games remain in the Colts’ regular season with a playoff spot already locked down as they sit 5th in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.

NCAA

  • In Game 2, the defenceman assisted on Harvard’s first 2 goals of the game, was a +3 and had 4 more shots.
  • The Michigan Wolverines blew by rivals Michigan State in the first round of the Big Ten series with back-to-back 3-0 wins. Will Lockwood was an offensive catalyst with a power-play assist in the first game and a power-play goal in the second. They will advance to the semi-finals at Ohio State.
  • Jack Malone and Cornell start their ECAC Championship run on March 13th against Princeton University.

  • The veterans got it done for the Utica Comets this week but Mikey DiPietro continues to get it done in goal. In his first of two starts, DiPietro turned aside 36 of 37 shots for the 3-1 win over their North Division rivals, the Rochester Americans. The Comets are chasing the Americans for second place in the division and are now 2 points back heading into Sunday. In DiPietro’s second start he stopped 33 of 34 shots for a 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Checkers who are 4th in the Atlantic Division.
  • Jake Kielly started the Comets’ third game of the week and showed strong only allowing 2 goals on 27 shots.
