Love is in the air on this Valentine’s Day and your love for the Blackfish: CanucksArmy Prospect Report has brought you here.
As always, there seems to be a player or two with a standout week and this week it was from a forgotten prospect of sorts. Down on the farm, the Comets continue to make their charge for the playoffs despite losing a bunch of players to the top club.
We will all start focusing on the upcoming trade deadline and then the playoff race but as we do every week, let’s focus on the Canucks prospects.
All the images of stats are from EliteProspects.com

Canada

WHL

alt
  • Jett Woo appeared in only one game this week after serving a two-game suspension for a charge on Kirby Dach. He picked up one assist in that lone contest. He remains in the top four for the Warriors, with he and Brook playing a lot and on the first powerplay unit.

OHL

alt
  • Mitch Eliot was held to one assist over the four games this past week.  Despite their struggles, it’s expected that Sting will make the playoffs but will get one of the top teams in the first round.
  • Matt Brassard had three games this week and he picked up… three assists. As you can see above, he continues to maintain a slightly higher than a point-per-game pace with the IceDogs..He has really helped his prospect stock with the move and it’s possible that he still receives an entry-level contract before June 1. He isn’t without flaws to his game but at the very least he has taken a step forward in the past few weeks.
  • Michael DiPietro has been up with the Canucks over the past week due to Thatcher Demko being injured. It is expected that he will head back to the OHL soon, as the Canucks now have two healthy goalies on the roster. They have exercised Article 16.13 in the CBA to allow them to keep him for up to 48 hours longer, in case Jacob Markstrom injures his back again but it appears at this point that the Swedish goalie is fine and thus DiPietro will go back soon after the game tonight.

United States

USHL

alt
  • Matthew Thiessen is being leaned on by the coaching staff again and that’s a good sign. He played in three games this past week going 2-0-1 in those games.  His best performance actually came in the shootout loss that saw him stop 30 of 31 shots. He then had a 5-4 win on the 11th, where he only stopped 15 of 19 shots. With those games played, his goals against dropped slightly from last week but the save percentage remained flat.

NCAA

alt
  • Quinn Hughes picked up four assists in three games over the past seven days.
  • William Lockwood continues a torrid pace in the second half of the season. Over the past week, he posted three goals and two assists in those three games. He has scored in eight of the last nine games for Michigan.
  • 2018 3rd round pick Tyler Madden has been fantastic since coming back from the World Juniors. It was clear that Boston College keyed in on him in the BeanPot finals but he was still able to pick up an assist after a fantastic dangle (below). He ended the week with two assists in two games for Northeastern.
  • Jack Rathbone continues to play on the first pairing for Harvard and gets some time on the second powerplay unit, as long as Adam Fox wants to leave the ice to allow the unit to change. He ended the week with two assists in two games.

Europe

Russia

alt
  • Manuykan appeared in two games for Avangard and once again was held off the scoresheet – he has been usually lining up on their fourth line. His fantastic start to the season feels so long ago now.
  • Nikita Tryamkin did not dress in any games this past week  – I am unsure if it’s due to injury, I’ve looked around and can’t find anything to suggest that he is injured.

Finland

alt
  • Petrus Palmu appeared in two games this past week, one of which he was held off the scoresheet and then he posted one goal and two assists in the other. His goal from this week is below
  • Toni Utunen appeared in two games but was held off the scoresheet in both. He played a season-high 19:26 in Tappara’s last game.

Sweden

alt
  • Kristoffer Gunnarsson dressed in two games for Linkoping (who is on loan to) and didn’t register any points.

Czech Republic

alt
  • From what I can see, Zhukenov did not play any games in any leagues this week.

AHL

alt
  • F Reid Gardiner was recalled from the ECHL to the Utica Comets.
  • Colton Saucerman was signed to another PTO earlier today as the 25 games on the first one had passed.
  • Adam Gaudette was recalled to the Canucks following the injury to Brandon Sutter; Zack MacEwen was also recalled to the Canucks in the last week.
  • Guillaume Brisebois, Thatcher Demko and Alex Biega remain up with the Canucks.
  • As always Comets Cory has you covered for everything Comets – check them out here.

ECHL

  • At this moment, the Canucks have no prospects in the ECHL.
