Another week has passed for Canucks prospects and wouldn’t you know it, players like Dmitry Zhukenov and Anton Rodin continue to make some noise. While other prospects continue to struggle. So let’s get excited and take a look at the week that was for the Canucks prospects.

  • Carl Neill played 3 games this week and finished with 2 PIM and -3. He is now below a point per game, and the Carl Neill’s are suffering as a result.
  • Dmitry Zhukenov had a busy week, putting up 1 goal and 2 assists in 3 games. He had 6 SOG and finished the week at even.
  • Tate Olson finished the week with 4 PTS (1G & 3A) in 4 games this week. He was also +2 with 2 PIM.
  • Kyle Pettit continues to put up points with 2 assists this week in 3 games. Pettit’s defensive game remains solvent, as he also finished the week +1. I take full credit for his resurgence after calling him out a few weeks ago.
  • Guillaume Brisebois remains out of the Acadie-Bathurst Titans lineup with an injury.
  • Mackenze Stewart had 1 assist this week and finished the week at even. He is back to playing forward with Brandon Carlo returning from the World Juniors.

  • University of North Dakota played an exhibition game against U18 US NDTP team this week. Unfortunatey, Boeser was held out of the game having just returned from the world juniors. UND gets back at it this week.
  • Adam Gaudette had a great week. In two games against St. Lawrence, he posted 4 assists and 5 SOG. He is now on a 3 game point streak.
  • Mike Williamson did not play any games for a second straight week.

  • Thatcher Demko was injured in the December 28th game against Ohio State, but played the next night against Providence. He was forced to miss both games this week due to what is being classified as an upper body injury. No timetable on his return, but Demko participated in practice this Tuesday, which bodes well for a speedy return.

  • The Comets are being led by Canucks prospects as Hunter Shinkaruk, Alex Grenier, Brendan Gaunce and Jordan Subban occupy the top four scorers spots on the team.
  • The Comets have now lost 7 in a row.
  • Grenier and Ronalds Kenins are currently injured.
  • Nicklas Jensen was traded to the New York Rangers bringing an abrupt end to an underwhelming career in the AHL. He appeared in 140 games and scored 61 points (33-28-61).
  • With the Canucks getting healthy, Andrey Pedan and Joe Cannata were assigned back to the AHL this week. After clearing waivers Chris Higgins has joined the Comets as well. Higgins won’t appear in the Comets game this weekend, but will practice on Monday.
  • The Comets recalled Curtis Valk from the ECHL and signed Brandon Marino to a PTO
  • Taylor Fedun was recalled by the Canucks this morning; Linden Vey and Alex Biega are still up with the Canucks.
  • As always, here is Jeremy Davis’s in-depth look at the week that was for the Comets.

  • Dane Fox put up 1 goal in 4 games this week for Kalamazoo. He finished the week -3 with 13 SOG.
  • Ludwig Blomstrand started the week strong with 3 goals and 2 assists in the first two games of the week, but followed that up with 0 points in the other two. He finished the week -2 with 15 SOG.
  • Anton Cederholm finished the week with 5 SOG, 7 PIM and -4. It’s becoming clear why the Comets have been signing players to PTO’s rather than recalling Cederholm.
  • Even McEneny did not play a game this week as he remains on IR.

  • With Joe Cannata returning to the Comets, Witt was returned to the ECHL and it did not go well. He appeared in their January 12th game where he gave up 6 goals on 35 shots.
Luckily for some Canucks prospects this week is over and a new one begins. Now is the time for prospects to make noise and show that they are worth keeping around. Lest they run the risk of going the way of the Jensen.
