Blackfish: Canucks Army Weekly Prospect Report – December 24th, 2015

With the holidays upon us, the hockey schedule sees a little slow period. But some Canucks prospects still played games and made an impact in one way or another. However, the best news this week is that the World Juniors start on Saturday morning!
For next week’s Blackfish, I will add Jake Virtanen and Brock Boeser’s stats at the World Juniors. But until then, here is this weeks edition.

  • Dmitry Zhunkenov played one game this week – he had 1 assist and 3 SOG.

  • To no one’s surprise, Brock Boeser officially made Team USA for the World Juniors yesterday. His tournament begins on Boxing Day against Jake Virtanen’s Team Canada.
  • Adam Gaudette played one game this week – where he had 1 SOG.
  • Mike Williamson did not play a game.

  • Thatcher Demko did play any games this week, but according to his twitter account he had some issues with Southwest Airlines and is spending the holidays with his girlfriend, who happens to be the Women’s Hockey goaltender at University of North Dakota.

  • Nikita Tryamkin played one game this week – where he finished -1. He did have the lowest ice time amongst defenceman (15:26) for the game, which seems odd as he had been the leader for many games recently.
  • Anton Rodin did not play any games this week.
  • Lukas Jasek was a very late cut for the Czech Republic World Junior team; so late that even Jasek’s parent team (HC Trinec) had tweeted congratulating him on making the team. Disappointing for Canucks fans who haven’t been able to see Jasek play.

  • Hunter Shinkaruk had a monster game on Friday night for Utica, putting up 1 goal and 3 assists. It was his second game back from injury, so it was great to see him have a good game.
  • With Linden Vey recalled and Alex Friesen injured, Brendan Gaunce played centre for the first time in a long time on Friday night – he had 2 goals. I don’t expect him to continue to play centre, but it should help his chances of being recalled to the Canucks later in the season.
  • Andrey Pedan, Alex Biega and Ronalds Kenins remain with the Canucks.
  • As always, my boy Jeremy Davis has a great in depth look at Utica’s past week here.

  • Kalamazoo played three games this past week – Dane Fox ended it with 1 goal, 8 SOG, 4 PIM and -1. Fox has cooled down considerably in December with 4 points in 9 games.
  • Ludwig Blomstrand put up 1 assist on Friday night and another on Saturday night. He finished the three game weekend with 4 PIM, 2 SOG and +1
  • Anton Cederholm had 1 assist during last Thursday’s game.
  • Even McEneny did not play a game this week.
  • Mackenze Stewart remains up with Utica but still hasn’t played a game there since his latest recall.

  • Clay Witt played this week! That’s where the excitement ends. He gave up 5 goals on 23 shots during Kalamazoo’s 5-3 loss to Atlanta on Saturday night.
With that, I will leave you all with Jake Virtanen’s first goal against Sweden from Wednesday’s preliminary game.
Merry Christmas everyone!
