It’s officially Autumn, which means it’s officially time for pre-season hockey! To mix it up, the Canucks are pre-seasoning in China right now.
  • The Canucks took the coolest plane in the world to China. This is basically just a flying hotel.
  • The Boys™ landed safely in Shanghai, ready to grow the game and have some fun. On the ice, they’re surrounded by fog, which is kind of weird but makes for beautiful photos.
  • Erik Gudbranson and Jacob Markstrom ate some bugs while in Shanghai and they seemed to genuinely enjoy the meal. Markstrom calls all of the bugs “bad boys”.
  • Gudbranson also found a gorgeous suit jacket and tried to haggle the price down. Props to the lady for not backing down (he did end up buying the jacket).
  • Meanwhile, some of the team visited the Shanghai Tower, which is a very tall building that gave them some sick views and a cool photoshopped souvenir photo.
  • Joining the Canucks for now is Chinese goaltender Zehao Sun, who won’t be playing in the exhibition games but is soaking up his time with the NHL club. Sun and Anders Nilsson prove that goalies come in all shapes and sizes, as long as they’re not afraid of getting the puck shot at them.
“The reason why I became a goaltender is because I’m not afraid of the puck getting shot at me,” Sun said Tuesday through an interpreter. “When I was very young, my coach asked me, ‘You’re not afraid of that?’ I said, ‘No, I can use my body to do that because I’m the last protection of the team.’ I want to [make] a contribution to the team.

  • Bo Horvat signed a new contract, finally. He spent his big day with CanucksTV in Penticton, answering Q&As and being a good guy. He loves emojis!

  • Finally, this gif of Chris Tanev talking about how excited he is for the upcoming season sort of sums up the general mood of Canucks nation.
