Chris Tanev is razzed by his teammates while trying to give an interview following his OT winner on Monday night.
Over at the White Towel, Tony Gallagher winds up for today’s "Hat Trick" blogumn and makes a really cogent point about how – contrary to popular belief – Cory Schneider’s interests align with Mike Gillis’ on the Luongo trade front. [the White Towel]
VanCityBuzz says they’ve got confirmation from the Vancouver Canucks that the team will sport Millionaires throwbacks on March 16th in a Hockey Night in Canada game against the Detroit Red Wings. Worth noting that the March 16th game is also the contest at which radio personality Blake Price is convinced the team will finally retire Pavel Bure’s number. [VanCityBuzz]
Icethetics has more details on this subject, and they also drop a history lesson that ties the Vancouver Millionaires and the Detroit Red Wings together in hockey history. [Icethetics]
A cancer patient from Victoria wrote Roberto Luongo a letter about how his persistence has inspired her during her epic battle. Roberto Luongo’s response is pitch-perfect. Whatta guy. [CTV News]
Marc Spector talks about Vancouver’s "enviable position" in terms of the club’s absurd wealth of quality goaltending. [Sportsnet]
Speaking of which Alain Vigneault hasn’t yet named his starter for Vancouver’s upcoming game against the Minnesota Wild this week – but I think he’ll tap Cory Schneider. Brad Ziemer and Iain Macintyre have the latest on the never ending goatender controversy. [Vancouver Sun]
Thursday night’s Canucks game against the Minnesota Wild will mark something of a homecoming for impressive rookie centreman Jordan Schroeder. Ben Kuzma has more. [The Province]
In case you just woke up from a forty-eight hour nap (and I’m jealous if you did), Chris Tanev scored his first career NHL goal in dramatic fashion last night. Daniel Wagner has the breakdowning over at Pass it to Bulis. [Pass it to Bulis]
Meanwhile Jordan Bowman and the Legion of Blog have cut a Chris Tanev first goal tribute video. [Legion of Blog]
Canucks.com’s in-house prospect guru Tyson Giurato profiles Brendan Gaunce, who has been lining up at left-wing of late and is putting up auspicious numbers since his return from a separated shoulder. [Canucks.nhl.com]
On the topic of 2012 Canucks draft picks, Vancouver’s sixth round pick last June, a big centre named Wesley Myron, has withdrawn from Boston University over conerns about his role and ice-time. I spoke to some close observers of Massachusetts collegiate hockey, and they all said that Myron’s talent (he’s a big guy with good hands, I’m told) was obvious, but that he just couldn’t quite put it together this season. Boston University’s headcoach meanwhile, gave College Hockey News this quote summarizing the situation: "I don’t think Wes has distinguished himself as ‘He has to be in the lineup.’" Ouch. [College Hockey News]
Speaking of prospects and who is and who isn’t one, HockeysFuture recaps the 2008 Canucks draft class, and reveal themselves to be the only people in the world who haven’t given up on Prab Rai’s NHL potential. [HockeysFuture]
Finally, Nucksmisconduct introduced a new regular feature (we hope) wherein they recap Vancouver’s current holding pattern in the various mainstream media power ranking lists. By the way, I wonder what the predictive value of a "power ranking" is. I’m guessing that it has to fall somewhere between "a turd" and "a mole on your ass." [Nucksmisconduct]
