Afternoon Headshots: April 26th

On a wonderful Friday at CanucksArmy (wonderful because it’s Friday and the sun in shining, not necessarily because of the content) we recapped last night’s Canucks loss to the depleted Anaheim Ducks, looked at which games this weekend would impact Vancouver’s first round playoff opponent, examined three tough tactical choices facing the Canucks coaching staff in advance of the postseason and Jordan Clarke ran through his "Canucks Week in Quips" for a final time this regular season.

Who are POONERMAN and CAMBARKERFAN you ask? They’re usernames listed in a defamation suit filed by former Canucks General Manager Brian Burke today. He’s seeking an injunction and damages against those internet trolls for spreading rumours about his personal life on a variety of on-line platforms. [MetroNews]

Despite the seemingly positive update on from Mike Gillis earlier this week Chris Tanev is "very, very, very" unlikely to be back in the lineup for game one of the postseason according to associate coach Rick Bowness, who would know since he runs the defense. Damn. [ProHockeyTalk]

Tough news about Tanev, but at least there’s good news about Kevin Bieksa (who if we’re being honest is a bit more important):

The Canucks handed out team awards pre-game on Thursday and Dan Hamhuis finally won his long overdue and well deserved Babe Pratt trophy. Jeff Angus gave out his Canucks awards over at Canucks.com today, while Daniel Wagner handed out a few of his own over at Pass it to Bulis. [CDC/PiTB]

Ross Langill laments that the "Luuuus" from the Rogers Arena crowd on Thursday, in what was quite possibly Luongo’s last start in a Canucks jersey, sounded more like "an cat’s farts." Hopefully the playoff crowds get a wee bit more into the games. [We’ve Got Twins]

Lots of fascinating Canucks related nuggets in Elliotte Friedman’s recent Thirty Thoughts column, including a bit on Vancouver’s new defensive systems and on shutting Cory Schneider down following the Chicago game. [CBC]

Jason Botchford pivots off of Elliotte Friedman’s suggestion that perhaps Cory Schneider is "resting" more than he’s hurt, and talks at length about Andrew Ebbett in the playoff lineup and the gamble the Canucks are taking in quite probably inserting Frank Corrado into their playoff lineup.
