In the midst of a tremendous offensive season, Abbotsford Canucks defenceman Christian Wolanin will be off to Laval to represent the Pacific Division at the AHL All-Star Game on February 6th.
Wolanin has played in all 33 Abbotsford games this season and leads the league in assists (35) and is third in the league for points with 39.
On top of what he’s doing in the offensive zone, Wolanin has been one of the most-trusted defencemen on the penalty kill and is the perfect veteran leader that an AHL team needs to run at a high level. Wolanin has been the power play quarterback on an Abbotsford power play that has flirted with the top-five in the league all season long.
This is the second AHL All-Star selection of Wolanin’s career. He made the North Division team back in 2019.
We may end up seeing more of Wolanin in the NHL later in the season, but for now, he is being honoured for his strong season as an offensive defenceman in the AHL. Wolanin is on a one-year deal with the Canucks and has been very happy with the role that the organization has given him.
The Abbotsford Canucks are 7-1-0 over their last eight games and are playing excellent defensive hockey under Jeremy Colliton. They are on the road this weekend before returning back to Abbotsford for three games in four nights against the Calgary Wranglers. The three-in-four begins on Wednesday, January 18th.
The 2023 AHL All-Star weekend will be held in Laval, Quebec. The All-Star Classic features a skills competition on Sunday, February 5 at 6 PM ET, and All-Star Challenge on Monday, February 6 at 7 PM. ET. Both of the events can be watched on AHLTV.
