The 8-3-0-0 Utica Comets will welcome the 5-5-1-1 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to town for game number 12 of the season today at 7:00 pm Eastern/4:00 pm Pacific. The Comets are coming off of their third-straight loss, a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Binghamton Devils, while the Pens last played to a 4-2 loss to Lehigh Valley.

The Pens show a road record of 3-4-0-1 this year, while the Comets have gone 5-2-0-0 at home. Utica has outscored their competition by a 41-26 margin, although the offence has dried up of late for the Comets, while the Pens have scored 35 goals and have given up 45.

The WBS power play has gone 11/49 this year, giving them a success rate of 22.4% with the extra man, while their penalty kill has given up 14 goals while down a man 52 times for a 73.1% success rate. The Comets, for their part, have scored just four goals while up a man 37 times this year for a heinous 10.8% success rate. Their penalty kill has been much better, killing off 38 of 41 man-down situations for a success rate of 92.7%.

Stefan Noesen leads the charge for the Pens with 11 goals and three helpers to give himself 14 points in 12 games, while Andrew Agozzino sits second with three goals and eight helpers in 11 games. David Warsofsky rounds out their top three with his one goal and eight assists, giving him nine points in 12 games.

Jon Lizotte leads the Pens’ rookie crew with six assists through 10 games, while Brogan Rafferty wears the rookie crown in Utica with one goal and five helpers in 11 games played.

Reid Boucher and Sven Baertschi will not be playing in today’s game as the former is out with an injury, while the latter has been called up to Vancouver. As such, Nikolay Goldobin is the team’s leading scorer amongst active players with two goals and nine assists to give himself 11 points in 10 games this year. Kole Lind sits second with three goals and six assists, giving him nine points in 11 games, while Francis Perron rounds out their top three with two goals and six assists to give himself eight points in nine games this year.

Season Series

This will be the second and final game between the two clubs in the regular season. The Comets took the first game by a 4-3 overtime win.

The Comets went 1/5 on the power play in that game, while the Pens scored on two of their five man-up opportunities.

David Warsofsky leads the season series with three points, while Reid Boucher, Sven Baertschi, and Oula Palve have each grabbed a pair of points.

Zane McIntyre allowed three goals in the first game between the two clubs, giving him a goals-against-average of 2.84 and a save percentage of 0.925% in the series. Emil Larmi was the man between the pipes for WBS when the two clubs last squared off and he allowed four goals for a GAA of 3.80 and a 0.871% save percentage.
