FIFA is a disgusting joke and things like the world cup are nothing but a giant corporate welfare scam for the rich. Just like the olympics. No wonder someone like him likes the idea.

Sports fans tend to be propagandized by garbage like this though and have the beer goggles on when the scammers start talking about all the wonderful economic benefits that never seem to result.

Kudos to the BC government for resisting the temptation to pander to an ill informed public and no doubt having to resist some bribery to them directly. Corporate prostitutes like Gordon Campbell take note. This is what integrity looks like. At least on one issue anyway.

      Some interesting comments…

… the World Cup will not come to Chicago.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the World Cup’s governing body wanted a blank check from the city’s taxpayers and he did not want to give that up.

“The guys from international soccer wanted us to underwrite their sporting event,” Emanuel said. “I am not going to write a company a blank check that can fleece the taxpayers.”

“FIFA could not provide a basic level of certainty on some major unknowns that put our city and taxpayers at risk,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The story was the same in Minneapolis.

“Unfortunately, the inability to negotiate the terms of the various bid agreements did not provide our partners and our community with sufficient protections from future liability and unforeseen changes in commitments,” the bid committee said in a statement.

Probably. lol. It’s like debating which organized crime organization is worse.

I’ll give the Griffiths credit for building GM place without looking for a handout, but I wonder how long it will be before we have Aquilini looking for corporate welfare dollars for the canucks.

Yes, he is the type to do that. Out of one side of his mouth he’ll claim to be a community oriented owner but I’ll bet he won’t have a problem soaking taxpayers soon enough
