As is becoming a tradition on Fridays, the fellas from the Halford & Brough Show on TSN 1040 had our own J.D. Burke on the show to talk the Canucks.
The conversation starts with Burke broaching the topic of Hutton’s play this season and what to expect from him in the coming seasons. Does the happy-go-lucky defenceman have more to offer? Burke argues that Hutton is probably as good as he’s going to get at this stage, given he’s already 24-years-old and what we know about ageing curves in the NHL for defencemen.
Sticking with the blue line, as they switch gears the conversation naturally goes to Erik Gudbranson, who’s become a hot topic in Vancouver this week in light of the news that the Canucks are trying to re-sign the rugged, stay-at-home defenceman.
Lastly, they broach the Canucks attempts at rebuilding on the fly through trading picks and prospects for players further along in their development curve to bridge the age gap between the current core of the team and its future core. Everyone on the show agrees it was a losing strategy, and the results bare that out quite clearly.
Like what you heard? Catch more of it today between 3-5 PM on TSN 1040 AM, as Burke and Israel Fehr team up for another episode of Nation Network Radio powered by Shark Club Sports Bar & Grill! Today’s guests are Alan Wells of Raw Charge to talk Tampa Bay Lightning and the Erik Karlsson speculation and CanucksArmy’s Jeremy Davis joins the show to talk about the Utica Comets resurgence and the Canucks blue line.
