Brendan Gaunce expected out until Early November

Canucks GM Jim Benning was on TSN 1040 following the Bo Horvat contract announcement and mentioned that forward Brendan Gaunce will be out until November recovering from shoulder injury:

Gaunce is entering the first year of a two year contract extension that he signed earlier this summer.

There had been a lot of questions of how the Canucks forward ranks would shake out, and with Brendan Gaunce missing the first month of the season makes some of those decisions earlier.

The 23-year-old forward is coming off a season where he posted 5 assists in 57 games with the Canucks and 3 goals and 1 assist for the Utica Comets in 4 contests.

How does this affect waivers? Presumably, Gaunce would be on IR, so if say, Burmistrov centered the 4th until Gaunce came back, could we send Burmistrov to the AHL without exposing him to waivers when Gaunce return?

No, Burmistrov would still need waivers. The Gaunce injury does buy some time, though. It’s also nearly unfathomable that there won’t be other injuries before November.

With the news that Gaunce is out these are my line projections to start the season:

    Daniel-Henrik-Granlund
    Baertschi-Horvat-Boeser
    Vanek-Sutter-Eriksson
    Gagner-Burmistrov-Boucher
    Rodin

With the forwards I’m assuming that Dorsett is either still injured or sent down.

    Edler-Stecher
    Tanev-Hutton
    Gudbranson-Del Zotto
    Juolevi-Wiercioch

On defence I’m hoping that Juolevi proves at least worhty of a few games to start the season.
