Another week has passed and the Canucks currently occupy a wild card spot!

For the Canucks prospects, it’s been a busy week. Utica continues to put together an impressive run in January, Adam Gaudette’s goal was the NCAA play of the week and some of the CHL prospects continue their pace.

All of that and more in the weekly Canucks Army Prospect Report!

Ryan – Juolevi had one assist and was a plus 3, but his team scored 18 goals in those two games.

The Knights just acquired Vande Sompel and he had 6 pts and was a plus 9 in the same games. Mete was also outscoring Juolevi before he was injured.

Should the best 18 year old defenceman in the world not be contributing more to 18 goals?

Can you find out what’s going on there from someone in the know?

    • cupnucks

      I’m curious about:

      – Who gets signed for a Canucks entry level contract for next year? (Zhukenov, Neill, McKenzie?).

      – Who out of this draftee list get signed to an AHL Comets contract for next year? (Rodrigo Abols?)

      – Who goes as an overager back to the OHL? (Olson, Stukel?)

      – How many contracts do we have to hand out? We have about 9 contracts expiring in our non-roster players list. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/canucks
      — We may want to re-sign McEneny, Evan or others.

      – We have 23 contracts left to handout out of our 50 contract limit for next year — at least 8 of those contracts will be Canucks roster players leaving a maximum of 15 contracts left.

      ——

      – What does the Comets roster start looking like from the graduation of these draftees?

      • Whackanuck

Let’s hope some of the AHL vets are dropped next year. It’s been a trying year for the Comets.

        Mike Zalewski
        Cole Cassels
        Michael Carcone
        Ashton Sautner
        Yan-Pavel Laplante
        Chad Billins
        Borna Rendulic
        Tom NIlsson
        Marco Roy

are not going to be NHLers and they aren’t carrying the Comets either. Much work for the pro scouts and Benning in the off-season. Carcone, Roy, Rendulic and Laplante were all recent recruits and have been dogs. Zalewski has taken a step back and Cassels just can’t put it together.

Can’t say I’m ready to just give up on Cassels, but I understand where you’re coming from. I’m of the mindset that his path to the NHL will be a longer road than others, but around 24 he could come into his own.
