WWYDW: Has Willie Desjardins Run his Course?

With the conclusion of last night’s games, the Vancouver Canucks have a 12% chance of making the playoffs according to www.SportsClubStats.com.
That’s not a terrible number, given the roster and where the Canucks are as a franchise. But assuming everything remains constant, it isn’t likely the Canucks will fulfill their stated goal of making the playoffs. Rightly, or wrongly, much of the criticism for this blunder of a season has fallen at the feet of the head coach.
From rolling four lines without ever breaking tradition, to icing Linden Vey for more minutes than the Sedins, Desjardins’ decisions and deployment have been under constant scrutiny.
So, I ask you: should the Vancouver Canucks fire Desjardins?
Last week I asked you which of the Canucks logos or jersey was your favourite. Or which one you’d bring back as a third jersey. Here are some of the best responses!
PB:
Black white and gold with the skate logo. Only the (what used to be) aways though, was never as fond of the white home jerseys. V was too much and the late 90s ones were ghastly. At least we didn’t have a huge cartoon duck or a fisherman on ours.
Nick:
I miss the days when home jerseys were the light ones and you’d have a colourful parade of away jerseys throughout the year. Otherwise, I like the new retro hockey rink / stick jerseys.
Steampuck:
I grew up with a black-and-white TV. The sweaters didn’t really do much for me. I remember going to a Canucks-Rangers game (ca. 1983) in the Pacific Coliseum (3-3 tie: helmetless Ron Duguay). Those loathsome Vs really popped in that bright yellow. They were still ugly, though. And while a lot of folks wax nostalgic for the old skate, it never did much for me. Don’t forget that they were pretty terrible in that skate for a very long time, too.
I think the nicest of the throwback sweaters was the renewed stick in rink effort. I liked that. Nostalgic, the right colours for Vancouver, etc. I also used to like the Johnny Canuck logo that Luongo used to wear on his post-game cap. Did that ever get trotted out as a third jersey?
GeezMoney:
I am older. I like the downhill skate because it means something to the child that lives somewhere deep inside of me.
But I have to say that the current jersey might be the best. We could probably all do without the lettering that tells everyone “hey did you know we are a Vancouver hockey team?” but the white shale and the cool shades of green and blue work for me. It’s very northwest. I can live with this jersey for a long time.
But again, the kid in me is screaming “shut up old man GeezMoney! Bring back the skate.”
And for one glorious night, they will.
Red Moon Rising:
The one thing that I remember about those long ago seasons is that whether the boys were playing well or not, most people agreed that they looked terrible doing it. Until relatively recently the team almost always made the worst (and poorest selling) uni lists. The local papers would pound that drum at least once a year when things were slow (like they do now actually only we’re not starting from ugly)
One of my fondest possessions is a clock with renderings of all those ugly-just as much for poor quality as style, ownership was pretty cheap back in the day- ugly uniforms. Even the memories are frightening.
Tbh the only one I’ve ever found appealing is the one they have never made: Johnny Canuck. Always liked that logo and could never understand why it was never tried (not flashy or big-league enough I guess).
