Good afternoon! It’s time for yet another “What Would You Do Wednesday”, Vancouver’s favourite game show ith no prizes and nothing to gain other than potential arguments. Today, we revisit a horse on life support and squeeze the last bit of blood out of it that we can before it dies.
Jake Virtanen and Jared McCann have been a major part of the Canucks’ early-season storyline. The pair of teenagers have done well for themselves since the start of rookie camp, and while Wille Desjardins hasn’t played them a significant amount, they’ve had their moments of belonging.
But we’re approaching their nine-game limit before a decision has to be made. McCann has played seven and leads the team in goals with four. Virtanen has played six, and his lone assist puts him only ahead of Yannick Weber on the team point charts; even still, Weber is a defenceman who has played half the games.
That’s obviously a gross oversimplification of what they’ve contributed, what they’re expected to contribute, and how the team wants to move forward with them. But this is a post for your thoughts, no mine. Has your mind changed about keeping them up or sending them down? What will their fates be in a week or so? Let us know what you think.

From Last Week

Last week, we asked you what you would do with the draft pick received from John Tortorella’s hiring by Columbus. Some of your best responses included:
Nazzy:
Honestly, Id use the pick and pick someone in a similar mold of Daniel Sprong or someone like him.
Use it on a guy with high-end, potential first line skill who may have a few flaws in his game and hope to round out his game through development. This pick is basically a free lottery ticket so why not swing for the fences?
Nick:
Based on historical standings, Columbus should be a 30-45 pick so I would spend it on a first round scouted player who falls to the second round. Think Ivan Barbashev or Thatcher Demko.
Richard:
Assuming it’s this year, it’s looking a lot like this will be the 31st overall pick (0-7 start, hiring Torts…)
We could pick up the 6th or 7th highest rated defenceman in the draft.
That said, if we suck as bad as preseason predictions say we will and we have ~39th pick as our own, maybe do 31 + 39 + Jensen for ~18th?
PB:
Given that we probably won’t be terrible but middling this year that means probably a mid-round 1st and 2nd with our own picks, so packaging them for a higher one or sticking with the pick is what I’d hope for. I think Columbus will opt to keep this year unless Tortorella can actually turn it around (highly doubt it but who knows, he has a rustbelt city kind of vibe about him, maybe it suits him).
