Speaking of retreads, there’s a lot of talk about them in Vancouver Canucks circles of late. More specifically, both Elliotte Friedman and Rick Dhaliwal have discussed the possibility of GM Patrik Allvin and Co. re-acquiring one Nikita Zadorov after letting the sizeable defender go as a free agent this summer.
Zadorov hasn’t exactly been a hit in Boston. Meanwhile, the Canucks&#8217; blueline hasn’t exactly been stellar without Zadorov. Hence, the thought of maybe pulling out the ol’ Uno reverse card and finding a way to get Zadorov back in BC.
It is, admittedly, a real longshot. But even then, it does bring up an interesting hypothetical…and interesting hypotheticals are, like, our whole thing here at WDYTT.
You can probably guess where this is going. Or, alternatively, you read the headline.

I suggest “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” by AC/DC.

Please no AC/DC, they&#8217;re literally the worst.
I would love to hear “War” by System of a Down play every time the Canucks score; that&#8217;s a banger!
“We will fight the heathens, we will fight the heathens!”

We rarely hear &#8220;Don&#8217;t stop Believin’&#8221; or &#8220;Living on a Prayer&#8221; so it should be one of those for sure. JK&#8230;
My serious choice and preference would be for the team to have a contest amongst BC-based indie rock bands to see what they can come up with and then run with it. The winner needs to be something with a lot of energy to get things pumped up. Have a fan vote to determine who gets in.

What makes a good goal song?
&#8211; Catchy.
&#8211; Ability for crowd to join in.

&#8211; Bonus points for uniqueness that won&#8217;t get lost in the sea of hockey goal songs.
For a catchy, sing-along-able, potentially annoying, out of the box goal song by a local artist, how about &#8220;Good Time&#8221; by Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City?

Vinny Jack:
&#8220;BULLS ON PARADE!&#8221;
(Rage Against The Machine).
The Oilers play a lot of Metallica, and that&#8217;s understandable, as Alberta has the most naturally cool people in the country!
That arena just shakes with bass, and the fans are loud!
Axeman:
Green Day with the air raid siren is a very solid choice.
The aim of the goal song should be to get the crowd rockin’, pump up the team, and strike doubt into the opponent. Local flavour is a bonus. To that end other song considerations may be:
KISS &#8211; “Shout it Out Loud”
KC and the Sunshine Band &#8211; “Get Down Tonight”
Trooper – “Raise a Little Hell” or “We&#8217;re Here For a Good Time”
Some of these songs are better for getting the crowd jacked up. A more ominous tone can be added, like they did with “Holiday” and the air raid siren overlay.
Van Halen also some very good songs that may be worthy.
Ozzy also has some, but they may be more suitable as an opening song, like “Hellraiser.” Metallica, too, but other teams already use theirs.
All-in-all, “Holiday” with the air raid overlay is an excellent choice.

“Warrior’s Dance” by the Prodigy.
West Coaster:
I think somewhat fitting would be to play the portion of lyrics &#8220;&#8230;with every mistake, we must surely be learning&#8221; from the Beatles&#8217; &#8220;While My Guitar Gently Weeps&#8221;, but change the lyrics to &#8220;&#8230;while the fanbase gently weeps.&#8221;

“Dyslexic Heart” by Paul Westerburg. Simple, clean, and catchy. A song you can dance to after a goal, unlike that dreadful Simple Minds song. My out-of-town friends ask me if the Canucks are serious about that being our goal song…and then they laugh. Dumbest goal song ever.

The Timelords – “Doctorin&#8217; The Tardis”
That siren, just listen to it. Bam!

Payola$ – &#8216;Eyes of a Stranger&#8217;
Sons of Freedom – &#8216;Mona Lisa&#8217; or &#8216;Criminal&#8217; (but those lyrics are not kid-friendly)
Japandroids – like they had mid-Sedin era, aka, the playoffs!
54-40 – &#8216;One Day&#8217;, or just about anything by them would fit
Something more instantly catchy with some bite:
REM – ‘Orange Crush’
Rush – ‘Tom Sawyer’

I would go with &#8220;Come On!&#8221; By The Hives:
* appropriate to celebrate a goal
* catchy
* obnoxious enough to inflict PTSD on opposing goaltenders
* Swedish (befitting of the team, historically)
* Easy to remember the lyrics (“Come on!” x 58, give or take)
&#8220;Circles&#8221; by Digitalism would be another solid choice: upbeat, catchy, and great-but-obnoxious chorus (I play it again, and again, and again, and again, and agaiiiiiiiiiin&#8230;..)
