Virtanen victim of blindside hit in WJC Exhibition, will be okay

Dec 20, 2015, 14:44 ESTUpdated:
Canucks fans held their breath for a moment this morning, as top prospect and recent team member Jake Virtanen took a blindsight hit to the head in a World Junior exhibition game against the Czech Republic.
The hit, delivered by undrafted 19-year-old Daniel Vozenilek, came with two and a half minutes to go in the first period. Vozenilek was assessed a head-checking minor and a misconduct for the play. Virtanen ended up being okay, and carried on.
Beyond that, the game was pretty uneventful. Virtanen finished without any points or shots on goal for Canada, while fellow Canucks prospect Lukas Jasek was also left off the scoresheet. Jasek did get into the box score, however, with a high sticking minor nine minutes before the aforementioned hit.
Canada won the game 1-0, thanks to a goal scored by 2014 San Jose Sharks 5th Round Pick Rourke Chartier. Canada’s next and final exhibition game will be played on Wednesday, against Sweden.
