He’s done it again, folks.

Jonathan Lekkerimäki scored his ninth goal in eight games today, giving him a total of 19 on the season.

Today’s goal was a bit more flashy than most, though.

After a dump-in from the point, the 19-year-old sharpshooter wasted no time, deftly corralling the puck on his stick from behind the net, and swiftly depositing it into the top corner with a lacrosse-style finish.

His reaction, let alone the entire building’s reaction, says it all.

With 19 goals on the year, he now holds sole possession of fourth place in the SHL and is now just two goals behind Canucks legend, Daniel Sedin for the most goals by a U20 skater. With five games remaining, he trails Elias Pettersson’s total of 24 from the 2017-18 season by five goals.

After producing just three points and no goals over nine games after returning from his MVP-worthy World Junior showcase, he’s now compiled 10 points over his last eight games and is one of the SHL’s hottest skaters in February.

Örebro did concede a late goal in the third period, propelling Lekkerimäki’s goal toward the eventual game-winner, giving him seven game-winning goals on the year. Overall,  his numbers are beginning to sit in high regard leaguewide.

Patrik Allvin has suggested Lekkerimäki will focus on his playoff push with Örebro and potentially join Team Sweden for a World Championship stint before joining the organization to prepare to earn a spot out of training camp next year. Whether that be in the AHL or NHL remains to be seen.

“If he doesn’t make the World Championship team, the plan is to get him over here to start working with him in Abbotsford as soon as possible,” Allvin told Chris Faber of Canucks.com.

With the win, Örebro carries a five-point cushion within the SHL playoff picture with five games remaining in the regular season.
