The Vancouver Canucks announced this morning that they’ve recalled Utica Comets forward Alexandre Grenier.
The move comes a day after Nikolay Goldobin missed a contest with the New York Islanders due to the flu, pushing the already thin Canucks’ forwards corps to the brink and forcing Alex Biega into the mix as their 12th member. Exacerbating the situation last night, Brendan Gaunce went hard into the boards and immediately skated off the ice in the first period, though he returned for the second and finished the game.
Grenier recalled.. Might just be insurance.. or maybe Gaunce's injury from last night is an actual thing.
This is the third time the Canucks have recalled Grenier. He’s skated with the team twice this season and has yet to register a point with just the one shot so far to his credit. Grenier, 25-years-old, leads the Comets in scoring this season with 48 points in 69 games.
The Canucks next game is Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. No word yet on whether Grenier will skate with the Canucks for that game, but I imagine we’ll get more clarity on his status in the coming day.
