The Vancouver Canucks made a pair of roster moves this morning, reassigning Brendan Gaunce to the Utica Comets of the AHL and recalling Alexandre Grenier.

Gaunce, 21, was in the midst of his second stint with the Canucks this season. In four games, Gaunce was held pointless, although he did have four shots. The reassignment provides the Comets with much-needed depth down the middle as they gear up for a playoff run down the stretch. Whether the acquisition of T.J. Hensick last week will push Gaunce down the lineup, or back on the wing, remains to be seen.
This is Grenier’s third call-up to the Canucks this season. His first stint included a November 18th game against the Winnipeg Jets, wherein Grenier played under ten minutes, almost scored and had four shots on goal.
Vancouver’s youth movement carousel keeps on rolling. Will be interesting to see how much of a look the Canucks take at Grenier this go around. Canucks general manager Jim Benning has shown a great deal interest in Grenier’s development these last two seasons. Given his 6’5 frame and developing nastiness, it’s not all that surprising.
Grenier, 23, is waiver eligible next season. This could very well be his last chance to making a lasting impression with the Canucks at the NHL level. Grenier will be slotting in for the injured Alex Burrows tonight, likely on the Canucks fourth line. This will be Grenier’s fourth game in four days, so temper expectations.
