KELWONA, BC – With tonight’s 4-0 loss to the Everett Silvertips, Vancouver Canucks prospect Parker Alcos and the Kelowna Rockets have been eliminated from the Memorial Cup.
The Rockets got a little bit of luck before tonight’s game, as projected 2027 number one overall pick, Landon DuPont, took warmups, but did not dress in the contest. There was no official word from the team regarding why DuPont was out, but he was seen hobbling after a hit along the boards at the end of the second period against the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.
Kelowna got off to a hot start, generating a ton of pressure from Tij Iginla’s line, but couldn’t beat Anders Miller. Silvertips Kayd Ruedig opened the scoring when he flicked the puck toward the net from an odd angle that just trickles through Josh Banini.
Just 25 seconds later, Fernando Pisani’s son, Jaxon, floated a shot from the blueline that beat Banini cleanly. The goal was Pisani’s first CHL goal.
The Rockets thought they got a goal of their own when chaos ensued at the Silvertips netfront, with Canucks’ Alcos leading his teammates down the line, celebrating the goal as if it were his. However, the goal would be reserved as video replay showed Los Angeles Kings prospect Vojtech Cihar kicked the puck across the goal line.
That would be as close as the Rockets came to scoring in this one. The Silvertips added a third goal early in the second, when Rowan Guest failed to clear the zone, and Matias Vanhanen made him pay. The 2026 NHL Draft-eligible winger cut to the centre of the zone and roofed one past Banini.
After the goal, Rockets head coach Derrick Martin made a goaltending change, Banini for Harrison Boettinger. He looked strong, stopping the following 20 shots he faced before Carter Bear put the dagger through the hearts of Rockets fans in Prospera Place with a late third period goal.
It was a struggle for Alcos and the Rockets this tournament. They started with a 5-0 loss to the Kitchener Rangers, followed that up with a much closer game, losing 3-2 in overtime to the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, and didn’t have the chops to compete with the Silvertips. With a 0-3 record, the Rockets become the second consecutive host city to go winless in the round robin – the Quebec Ramparts in 2025.
The Canucks prospect was held pointless throughout the tournament, finishing with eight shots on goal, two penalty minutes, and a minus-two rating.
This concludes the round robin stage of the 2026 Memorial Cup. Gabe Chiarot’s Kitchener Rangers advance to Sunday’s final and will face off against the winner of Friday’s semi-final between the Everett Silvertips and Chicoutimi Saguenéens.
