Vancouver Canucks prospect Anthony Romani is set to be part of history in his freshman season with Michigan State hockey.
The NCAA announced that on January 31, 2026, Penn State will host Michigan State in an outdoor doubleheader at Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State football program. With a capacity of 106,572, Beaver Stadium is the second-largest stadium in the United States, making this one of the biggest stages college hockey has ever seen.
The event will feature both men’s and women’s games, with the Penn State women’s team set to face Robert Morris.
“This is a historic moment for Penn State Hockey, our fans, and the entire Penn State community,” said Patrick Kraft, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, in the official release. “To bring the excitement of college hockey to Beaver Stadium is truly special. Having our men’s program face a premier Big Ten opponent in Michigan State and our women’s program face Robert Morris on this stage reflects the incredible growth and national profile of Penn State Hockey and provides an unforgettable experience for our student-athletes, alumni, and fans. We can’t wait to see Hockey Valley come alive in Beaver Stadium.”
The men’s matchup will showcase a potent list of college hockey’s biggest names. For Penn State, the headliner is projected 2026 first-overall NHL draft pick Gavin McKenna, alongside Jackson Smith (Columbus) and Aiden Fink (Nashville).
Michigan State counters with one of the deepest rosters in the nation. Alongside Romani (Vancouver), the Spartans boast top talent that includes Porter Martone (Philadelphia), Cayden Lindstrom (Columbus), Shane Vansaghi (Philadelphia), and Trey Augustine (Detroit) in net.
Specific game times and additional details for the event have yet to be announced.
Romani, a Canucks 2024 sixth-round draft pick, committed to MSU in May following a four-year, 223-game tenure in the OHL. Split between the North Bay Battalion and Barrie Colts, he amassed 110 goals and 93 assists for 203 points. He added 40 points (24 goals, 16 assists) in 52 playoff games.
MSU opens their 2025-26 campaign on October 9th, hosting New Hampshire at the Ron Mason Rink at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Michigan.
