Vancouver Canucks prospect Anthony Romani has been off to a very hot start this season at Michigan State University. The second-year forward was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week following a two-goal game against the University of North Dakota on Saturday night.
Through six games, the Canucks’ 2024 sixth-round pick has been on an offensive tear. Romani leads the Spartans in both goals and points with seven goals and nine total points to start the season.
Last season, Romani registered 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points in 37 games. Now, just six games into the season, Romani has already scored half as many as he did in his freshman year. He’s been a mainstay in the Michigan State top-six forward group, which is loaded with future NHL talent and high-pedigree prospects.
Romani has also been tasked with playing in all situations so far, getting looks on both the power play and penalty kill. Though his scoring pace is likely unsustainable throughout the entirety of an NCAA season, his hot start will surely only add to his opportunity within the lineup.
The Spartans, like Romani, have gotten off to a hot start to this season. With their most recent win over North Dakota, which is where Romani earned his second star of the week honours, the team moved to a 5-1-0 record.
The next matchups on Michigan State’s schedule are surely ones that Canucks fans will want to keep an eye on. On Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November 7th, the team will play host to Caleb Malhotra, Niklas Aaram-Olsen, Aiden Celebrini, and the Boston University Terriers.
This will be the first and potentially only opportunity this season for Canucks fans to see four of the team’s prospects sharing the ice together in what should be an exciting matchup. Friday’s puck drop is set for 5:00 PM, while Saturday’s game starts at 2:30 PM.
