would take some exhaustive research, but can’t imagine #Canucks have ever called up 9 different players from the minors before the 20 game mark of #NHL season: Sasson, Bains, D-Petey, Lekkerimäki, Young, Silovs, Räty, Brännstrom & Aman

On Thursday, November 21st, 2024, CanucksArmy’s Jeff Paterson posed a question as to if this was the most recalls the Vancouver Canucks have made before the 20-game mark in the franchise’s history.
A personal fact about me is that I have a Bachelor of Arts in History. Exhaustive research is my thing; I revel in it. In a follow-up post, Paterson expressed doubt that I would be able to find 55 years worth of NHL-AHL recall history. Assuming he was right, I figured I could find 10-15 years worth. I underestimated myself. By using AHL.com’s transaction page, I was able to uncover the Canucks’ farm team transaction history from the 2005-06 season to now.
In short, Jeff Paterson’s hunch appears to be correct. From publicly available information, this is the most the Vancouver Canucks have recalled players from the AHL in 20 years. I did not count conditioning loan recalls. Even if I did, every season would still be below the nine from this season. There are still several days until the Canucks play their 20th game as well; this total could grow. I would be curious to know if this was an all-time record for the team, but finding out would take much more research than spending a few hours digging through the transactions page of TheAHL.com.
Here’s how this recall sausage was made. Every recall from the 2005-06 season to where we stand now in the 2024-25 season. The dates under “Recalls” indicate the start of the season to the day before the Canucks’ 20th game.
