The Vancouver Canucks just can&#8217;t stop making trades.
Shortly after 3 PM Pacific, Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin announced that the club had traded for Calgary Flames defenceman Nikita Zadorov, sending a third and fifth round pick back Calgary&#8217;s way. In a <a href="https://twitter.com/Canucks/status/1730361530800345238">tweet</a>, the Canucks wrote:
&#8220;General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the Canucks have acquired D Nikita Zadorov from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft (acquired from CHI) and a third-round pick in 2026.&#8221;
Zadorov, 28, makes $3.75 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. The Canucks&#8217; holes on defence have been noticeable in the games they&#8217;ve played since it was announced that Carson Soucy would be out for up to two months a couple of weeks ago.
Adding Zadorov means the Canucks will be able to rely less on Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek. Zadorov is going to be a mainstay on the Canucks&#8217; penalty kill and instantly becomes one of the club&#8217;s four-best defencemen.
With the trade rumours surrounding both Zadorov and Chris Tanev, it&#8217;s a bit surprising that the Canucks only had to give up a third and fifth round draft pick to acquire the 6&#8217;6 nearly 250-pound defenceman.
Here&#8217;s what FlamesNation writer Mike Gould had to say about what the Canucks are getting in Zadorov:

Sometimes, that confidence is misplaced, but he&#8217;s generally quite a bit more trustworthy than, say, Tyler Myers. He&#8217;s a likeable guy who should fit right in on a second or third pairing under Tocchet in Vancouver. Expect some big hits and, on occasion, some big goals.</blockquote>
