Now that the Canucks have trimmed enough fat to switch from “having a look” to “getting ready for puck drop” the Utica Comets are well-positioned to begin their 2015/16 training camp. Here’s who will make the trip to Lyon, France.
Forwards
Alex Friesen, Hunter Shinkaruk, John Kurtz, Tyler Shattock, Michael Zalewski, Joseph Labate, Nicklas Jensen, Ludwig Blomstrand (!!!!!), Blair Jones, Dane Fox, Cole Cassels, Mackenze Stewart, Carter Bancks, Wacey Hamilton
Defencemen
Traves Ehrhardt, Evan McEneny, Anton Cederholm, Ashton Sautner, Jordan Subban, John Negrin, Andrey Pedan
Goaltenders
Clay Witt, Joe Cannata
Obviously, there are more players who could end up heading to the Comets in the coming days, but the Canucks still have a few extra players at training camp. Curtis Valk, who was hoping to join the team in time for training camp after suffering a knee injury last season, won’t be joining them, targeting November as his return date.
Wait…
I know what you’re thinking. Lyon, France isn’t Utica, New York? Well, they’ve decided to hold their training camp there for a few reasons; France is a beautiful place, the Dragons de Rouen wanted to face them, and the Syracuse Crunch, a fellow New York-based AHL team, wanted to join them and face them in a pair of games as well. These will all go down at Charlemagne Skating Rink.
