The Vancouver Canucks are back in action tonight, playing in the first game of a back-to-back against the Boston Bruins before flying to Montreal to face the Habs tomorrow.
The Canucks turned in a strong performance against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday, but it still wasn’t enough to get a win.
Here’s how the Canucks lined up at morning skate:
2-7-1 in their last ten and currently sitting dead last in the Pacific Division, the Canucks’ players are trying to put out a fire that just keeps growing more and more vicious in nature.
What was said
Head coach Travis Green says Jaroslav Halak will start in goal tonight against his former team.
Jason Dickinson reflected on the tough stretch the Dallas Stars had last season, and said that the veteran leadership on their team made up of players mostly over the age of 30 were relied on heavily to get them out of it.
“It’s easy to lean on experience,” said Dickinson “A lot of those guys were north of 30, so they’d been through stuff similar to that before — it wasn’t anything too daunting for them. As a young player in the league, it can be overwhelming. It can be hard to shut out the noise and it can be hard to not get hard on yourself and start overthinking things. So with experience, you’re able to tune that noise out and just refocus again.”
Luke Schenn added that despite not getting results, the Canucks are still just trying to stick to their process and hope results will follow.
“It would be easy to sit here and be frustrated and look at the direct results, but sometimes it’s about the process before results and the outcome,” said Schenn. “If we continue to play like that [the way the Canucks did against Columbus] we are going to get results. So obviously, that’s one game — whether you win or lose a game, you’ve always gotta move on to the next game. So I think there’s some things we can learn from it, some things we can take away. We’re playing a hungry Boston team today who’s going to be another great challenge for us.”
Puck drop is at 4 PM Pacific from TD Garden in Boston.
