Per Sportsnet&#8217;s Elliotte Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks have granted Conor Garland&#8217;s camp permission to talk to other teams around the NHL to help facilitate a trade.

Friedman expanded on his report during his second appearance of the day on today&#8217;s edition of Donnie and Dhali &#8212; The Team:
<blockquote>&#8220;I wanted to do this before when I was on, but I wasn&#8217;t able to confirm it at the time,&#8221; Friedman began. &#8220;But Connor Garland and the Vancouver Canucks have reached an understanding that he is able to look for trades with other teams in the NHL to see if there&#8217;s a better fit for him. As you guys know, the Canucks are very tight to the cap, and I think this is a situation where they&#8217;re looking to see if there are other options available to him. And he has a new agent, Judd Moldaver, who is very aggressive, and although he wouldn&#8217;t comment, from what I understand and what I was told, he is pretty aggressively calling around in teams and seeing what the potential fits are.&#8221;</blockquote>
Garland was part of what many call one of the worst trades in Canucks history, when the Canucks traded Antoine Roussel, Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson, along with a first, second, and seventh round pick to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Garland and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. After acquiring him, former Canucks general manager Jim Benning handed Garland a five-year contract extension with an annual average value of $4.95 million.
Garland hasn&#8217;t been able to find a regular home in the Canucks&#8217; top six forward group or on the team&#8217;s loaded first power play unit. Through 158 games with the Canucks over the past two seasons, Garland has tallied 36 goals and 62 assists for a total of 98 points.
The Canucks bought out Ekman-Larsson this past season. Garland has three seasons &#8212; including 2023-24 &#8212; remaining on his contract.
